CB550F Shiny Orange paint

Fuel tank leaked and lifted off the paint. Need to spray it shiny orange when I get it repaired. Anyone know where to get it? I've got the colour code but I doubt paint codes go back as far as 1976. Or maybe someone here has a spare tank kicking about.

Sorry no spare tank. Try RS paints a specialist auto paint supplier on 01707 273219, who should be able to identify the colour from the model and year, given its the original colour. When I used them the girl who answered the phone was able to paint code my 1960 triumph correctly before she even checking the paint bible.

I had a professional paint my tank (RS Paints)... and this happened. Frankly unsure what went wrong ... folk might suggest the tank was overfilled... but I've had 10s of vehicles in my life & spilled petrol at sometime on all of 'em. I suspect the lacquer simply didn't extend far enough over the colour coat - and due poor cap seal dripped down the outside of the filler neck.
(If it were a leaky filler neck joint the previous red would presumably have spoiled - it was perfect)

Regardless, the sprayer very unhappy, and tackled RS who deny wrong doing. Tank now being re sprayed (FOC) in a different brand, to as close as he can match it.

I guess I'll be far more cautious... ie only fill it 2/3 full, but what a pain.

The Man that has used it has spoke. I would never use any chemical sealer and would opt for a different tank but, Norniron would not listen.
One of the best sealers on the market is Flowliner which is used by many pro restorers.

Second that. Speak to Bob at C J Wylde's as he's lined several tanks with flowliner for me and never had a failure,

Really? We're talking about the inside, yes? I found that stuff to be impregnable. Not sure about plugging seam leaks though because I didn't have any, but they do market it as doing that as well.
