Oil bloody oil
« on: August 31, 2014, 08:44:42 PM »
I have done about 2K on the K6 without any problems but now after a run (about 50-60) miles i get spots of oil on the finn below the head gasket but it has not run from there. it seems to have been blown i think and its on both sides

i use a quarter of a pint of oil in 150 miles.

where is this coming from?
does this mean my head gasket is shot?

Thanks
Billy

This may sound dopey but to lose a quart of a pint that dont look much to me.One thing I have found with the 750 is when doing oil change you can over fill as well as under fill. You have to go for a bloody good ride to get a true level.Billy with that much splash Could it be fork oil?To me just dont look enough.Mine dishes out not always just a dribble between 2 and 3 clyinders but no notice on the level stick.F ING annoying and trust me I have given up.

Mine had a few drops appear in the same place and iv only just found were it was coming from now it has smothered my right boot after a long blast at 90. Weirdly it was coming from one valve cap.

Does not look like a gasket problem. Have you re-built the engine 2k miles ago? Mick is on the right line with this but, quarter of a pint is a little too much. Any oily parts round the down pipes or burning any oil?

Slightly off topic... but anyone have any figures as to how much oil the constant chain lubrication 'system' looses.... ie is part of Billy's 1/4 pint down to this? Chain oiler set too high?
Always wondered...

Billy could it be coming from the rev counter drive oil seal ? it's common for them to leak a little?  ;) cheers Mick.

Mick, you would only get oil spots down one side of the engine, not both sides. That is what is the confusing part is.

Not necessarily when oil was escaping from the valve cap on cylinder four it was blowing a mist on the base of the tank and spots were appearing on both sides.

Good point. Oil is a funny one when in mist form.

Hi again Billy,

Now think the drive chain oiler was discontinued at the K6 .... ie likely you'll not have this.

Cheers,
Simon.
