Tyre advice 400/4

[Harold 400/4]

Managed to write my rear tyre off yesterday, and looking for advice on replacement.
I searched the forum, and Avon and Pirelli got good write-ups.
Currently running Metzelers which seem Ok, but I have not tried any others for comparison.
DSS are selling Maxxis.
Any thoughts gratefully received whether recommendations, or brands to avoid.

Maxxis are a good tyre but, it is a soft compound which means good grip. They do not last very long if you are a hard rider. Maxxis can be bought a lot cheaper than what DSS sells them for. A good retailer for tyres is Busters/M&P or Feked.

I've found Maxxis to be a very good compromise between wear and grip - and better than most tyres that were available Back In The Day.  Dunlop K82s work well, too.

Great advice Trig, as I was going to get two sets from DSS for my 250 and 400/4, assuming it would be a good deal.

Great advice guys but for us out in the fields who the hell are they?Webs address would be of help.Did find one of them busters and Trigs spot on again cheaper than DS

Well I Googled them and found a stockist near me in nearby Hull. Not got any prices yet though.

Cheers Trig the only reason I said imperial is because thats all I remember mate.I still use pounds,inches and gallons.The only metric I know is spanner sizes

The Avons are the newest design but also probably the most expensive. Personally I like the Metzelers. I've been using them since the early eighties.

Years ago on the dispatch bikes we would run Metzeler ME33 on the front and Avon Road Runners on the back. Some people would say never mix on tyre manufactures but, thousands of dispatch riders were not wrong.
