I am sure that i read the later k0,s had non wrinkle tanks, i think when the front guard changed to single cut, and the plastic chain guard got extended
pete

Wouldn't have thought a 'Jan 70 manufacture  K0 was a later one Pete?

Cheers ... Ash
It is 6 months into production of this model, so I suppose mid run would be more acurate as it was in production for a year, some where during mid run they lost the #8 bolts , maybe the sane time as the chain guard and single cut fender
Over to you James does this bike have the early features or later features

I'll properly document the bike in a few weeks - as I said I'm resisting the urge to start digging into the bike at the moment so she'll take a back seat whilst I get the other projects sorted. To be fair I'm still not 100% on what constitutes early / later features on a Diecast K0?

My UK K0 is 1010382 and is Oct '70 mfg. so I image the K0 diecast  production started around Sept '69 and finished about July '70.

Looks like post title has changed from original Jan70 to Feb70, which probably makes a difference

According to Steve Swan on the Sandcastonly site:

All sandcasts had 'wrinkle' tanks.

If i recall correctly, smooth tunnel tanks were fitted approximately around vin 14xxx, Dec.69.

Gold is a 1970 color, not used on 1969 mfgr bikes, at least that i am aware of - yet.

According to the parts manual, gold came into use at vin 19210 which would be a circa Jan.1970 vin.

Thanks Ash. Just to cloud the issue a little I also have a Jan '70 K0 (has been painted red) that has a wrinkle tank which is apparently original to the bike...hmmmm..

...how do I change the title of the thread?...duh

Go back to the first post and edit the title - that is the phrase that is picked up by the forum software.

I've just done this with my 500/4 K0/K1 thread.

Steve
Thanks Steve have updated the thread title now...

I would have thought it would have originally had a wrinkle tank Richard..

Debatable given Steve's change over figure .. if indeed correct.

Don't think there are any masters James only theorists and don't think there is ever going to be a decisive answer. In reality it doesn't really add to the exterior appearance. It's a bit like the 2 hole rear hub, you can't see them on an assembled bike anyway & in reality not sure how much effects the final price. If someone really wants a K0 and the bits you normally  see are OK, chances are their heart is going to rule their head and they will buy it anyway.
