CB750K5 for breaking
« on: October 07, 2014, 09:38:33 PM »
Ok, so I've just won this, on eBay, from D&K.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/311109525541

I'm diversifying outside 400 Fours, and this seemed like a decent buy for slightly over two grand.  I haven't seen a near-original CB750 for anything like that sort of money anywhere.

Yes, I'll be breaking it, like Ash with the CB350 twin he won from D&K.  I'd appreciate knowing what's in the want besides engine, tinware, side panels, panel badges, brakes and switchgear.

Plan is to shove the slower-moving stuff onto the website, and let the starry-eyed bidders fight it out over the 'in demand' stuff and the small clips and brackets.  But first, if anyone on the forum is looking for anything particular, drop me a line, because I'm more than happy to do a cheaper deal here for members.  That 4-into-2 exhaust looks decent for a start, particularly as the replica 4-4 systems are still some way off.

Problem is, I bought the 350 twin from DK to break  for it's wheels and a couple of other small parts but can't now bring myself to do that now  so it's going to be resto project #4  ::)

Nice K1 seat on that 750K5 BTW.

Think you should give Bitsa first refusal on the front wheel and caliper! He been after one for Sooooooo long!

Cheers ... Ash

I think it would be a struggle to make money braking this given what was paid, have you considered registering it and selling as complete bike, obviously get it all serviced and running etc

Agree with Pete, but who knows there are little things that command good money. However,  it's not like the 400/4 which was not popular in the US so only around in smallish numbers there, and there are huge numbers of 750 parts dealers in the States,  plus Yamiya have most of the hard to get parts covered and thanks to David at Saisei these are now affordable to us members.
It's a big debate about parting out good bikes and personally I can't bring myself to do it but hey-ho we all need parts and some of my best parts have come from bikes which must have been A1 condition before broken up, so who am I to talk.

DK are wierd on their pricing they often have really nice parts for low money but other parts which are totally overpriced. I think their resto projects are pretty reasonably priced though.

Cheers  .. Ash

Well, we'll see.  So it's a K1 seat it, then?  That's worth knowing.

Yes and the pan and trim/strap can be used to make a good replica of the K0 'ducktail' seat as the pan is almost identical apart from an extra screw hole  where the additional catch on the K1 mounts. It's actually much closer to a standard K0 seat pan than the repro Yamiya sells, because Yamiya's is based on a really early sandcast (first 400 VIN's) design.

Thanks for that....

Blimey, it's a busy morning just replying to queries about items simply from this forum.

I imagine I'll have the bike next week.  I'm going to be out of the country from 19-23 October, and then for two weeks from the 30th, so will be closing the website during that time, but running some stuff on eBay on a delayed start and 10-day auctions, to time out when I get back.

Not surprised.  I sold an "effectively NOS" (brand new, put on a bike, and sat on once or twice) 400 Four seat for just over £300, not too long ago.

Here is one that shows how prices have gone up: In 2004 DSS were selling HM323's at £79 each. At the same time a German was selling them at £200 a set. Today the German is still selling HM323's but, at £2,256 a set.

Wow Trig ... and I thought my HM300's were a snip in 2009 for 525 inc vat from DSS.
In 2003 I bought a brand new in box  400/4 seat for 110 from DSS.

It's Honda's fault for discontinuing everything and making our passion un-affordable.

Cheers ... Ash
