Which CB400 do I have?
« on: November 09, 2014, 06:26:48 PM »
I brought my CB400 from a dealer who buys bikes across Europe before shipping them to Japan this one he felt was to good so sold it on eBay. It was originally registered in Holland and has the following serial number CB400F 1069572. I ask this question as I ordered some bolts from DSS using a CB400F manual. DSS shipped the parts I ordered however on inspection of the originals I find they are 1mm to big. The bolts in question being for the top clamp for the front forks. The originals are 7x54 flanged with flanged head cap in chrome, the parts I ordered are 8x56 with separate washers all in chrome. So what have I got?

Edit. Just to add it was first registered in Nov 76. Thanks, Greg.

With that VIN number, it is a General Export. It lists 2 part numbers for that type of bolt. 7x54 is number 90155-369-000 is this correct?
Here is the correct bolt>> http://www.cmsnl.com/honda-cb400f-general-export-kph_model14637/bolt-flange-7x54_90155369000/#.VF-1bjSsXRx But, as i said, there is another which has a washer.

The copy of my manual gave 92101080560B, which is the 8x56. If nothing else it will teach me to measure the original before ordering. Thanks for that part number, don't suppose you have a link to a manual that will cover my bike.

Cheers, Greg

That part number is also correct. It is 56mm because the 2 washers will be 1mm each.

Thanks Trigger. Yes that looks like the right part but considerably more expensive than the one I ordered £3.50 as opposed to 95p. Japanese money pit as some one has pointed out ;D. Ok I have a pair of 8x56 chrome hex bolts, 4 chrome washers and a pair of hex caps, any one interested!

The originals are 7mm bolts so the 8's won't fit the top bridge. Does that help?

Thanks for your help, Greg

OK, Misread the 8mm part. Return them to DSS and ask for the right ones. Sorry, doing a million things at once.

Sorry, Have a bit of time now, done all my dirty work.
Was looking on the microfiche on your bike and it also shows dome nuts that goes with the 7mm bolts. Did it have dome nuts before?
OK, found the part numbers. The flange 7mm is 90155-369-000 and the 7mm dome flange nut is 90360-425-870 and has been superceded a few time but, could be 90304-KCT-690 now.
