Started working life as an engineers dogsbody in a cotton mill(long gone) then a Merchant Navy Engineering Occifer(mostly far east for Shell but did Vietnam in 75) and got OND in engineering worked on everything from madel airplane glow plugs up to cats since ashore, even looked after two colledge workshops for vehicle and construction plat-City and Guilssilver medal motor vehicle but now have to drive HGV for a living due to very bad dermatitis (safety clean caused mine but hot hydraulic oil or brake fluid is real bad!)

Potted history over but just for Bitsa

The Torque setting for the big end bolts (did you notice there were 3 big ends per cylinder?) was:-

One average size man with a 28 lb hammer on the provided flogging spanner!!

I would not say eggshells Bitsa. I have been hammering the hell out of a fly wheel puller, trying to get the fly wheel off a CB750 crank for the last half an hour. Still doesn't want to part even with heat applied.

Use the proper tool then Trig, I spent a week of evenings trying the same with a hub puller, heat as well, took it into local Honda dealer, off in seconds, the tools can be found on e-bay for around a tenner, money well spent!:))

Did use the right tool in the first place but, it has pulled on the thread. Have had this problem before and some idiot had put retainer on the shaft. Maybe because they never see a woodruff key.

If I remember right they are just a taper fit no key or whatever.Mind you rebuilt a couple now and did not remove it didnt have too.

No woodruff key Bitsa. But some idiots if they dont see a key, then they put retainer on. Always take them off to replace the starter clutch.
