We all had NU Rider Policies when I was at Uni and rode each other's bikes as a matter of course...

Here's the view outside our shared house in Hove in 1979

Somewhere I have a photo of me and some friends when we were Student Nurses in 1980 outside the Nurses Home at Pembury Hospital in Tunbridge Wells. There were 4 of us with Bikes, I think mine was the KZ 400 in the pic, and my friend had a 400 of some sort and we had the tank resprayed in pearlescent pink with a picture of the Pink Panther painted on it. Seemed a good idea at the time !!!

I too had a NU rider policy, then went to Footman James who eventually hiked up the price, so I moved with Peter James after he left FJ.  I pay £156 for 7 bikes including a 1500 'Wing.  All on agreed value and totalling nearly £20k, unlimited mileage - but I am VERY old (66 next)
I also have a US import 400/4 included which I bought and registered 10 years ago - a very early one only about 500 numbers in from the start.  The DVLA in their wisdom always went back to the beginning of the year on imports, so mine ended up with an M reg.  'Hoist with their own petard'  it means it will be tax exempt from Jan 1st 2015 - a result!!  I sold this bike to my cousin in Hull about 8 years ago, but bought it back very recently and I'm just tidying it up for next season.  I've put my spare brand new Varnish blue tank and side panels on it, plus a brand new front mudguard I've had for 25 years -  from DS for about £45 then!

Funny you should say that Trig, I did mention a couple of years back that in Steve's avatar pic he has more than a passing resemblance to the "Toecutter" from the Mad Max film, which he denied!

Sooo.... just following this up on a couple of threads.

Julie: tried the Post Office but they told me they don't do multi-bike policies... after a lengthy proposal question and answer session  >:(

Got limited mileage lifted from my Lynbrooke policy as per.

RFL: Researched a CBF125 for my son. Has 8 months tax left to run. OK I know it's only 17 quid but since Oct 2014 RFL is not transferable to the new registered keeper  >:( >:( so it seems... HMG saves cash by no longer sending out tax discs (OK) but reaps more cash by wiping out residual months. Little b*ggers  :o

Not exactly Tom, you'll get a cheque for all the complete months remaining - it's the partial months you lose. They'll still make shed loads doing that, though  >:(

Ah OK. I've read it properly now. The previous owner gets the cash back - that seems fair as far as it goes I suppose, but as you say there is unused months/backdated start either side they will profit from under the new scheme.
