It's before 1st January 1974. Yep, non of the 400's are exempt yet. I have a very rare, vary nice 1971 CB500 Four that will be up for sale soon.

I suppose what your saying Trig is that if I buy your lovely 500/4, it will be Tax exempt. Good idea but it may be cheaper for me to just give HM the 58 quid for my Honda RFL  ;D ;D ;D

Just Pay the £58. The problem you have is that your bike is 408cc. If it was under 400cc you would only have to pay £38.

Trigger, be sure to put up lots of photos of it before selling. I'll be interested to know what it makes too.
Cheers

I'm insured with Lynbrooke, they were able to ditch the limmited milage, I have about 5 bikes insured with them with my wife and dad named riders on the policy. They seem pretty good about tailoring a policy to suit what you want. I really originally sought them outbas they do allow buy back salvage and sidecar cover and my 500/4 is one bike I would repair regardless if written off, I have every part I could need so really wanted that option for that bike. There was no way I was going to accept limited milage, that bike was averaging over 25k a year as my only transport for quite a while.

Hi All,
Talking insurance, anyone out there know of any cheap insurance for a "modified" bike, mine seems to attract 3-4 times the amount quoted for a standard 400/4.
One time of day, the quotes were based on engine size, they now appear to be accompanied with the old intake of breath as mentioned previously, and I only want it two or three months a year.
nice bike,nothing in the bank

I always tell people to try the post office insurance but, always worth shopping around.
The best years ago was the rider policy that norwich union used to do.

I'm paying about double that for my two bikes, 3k miles/yr each. Also, if I ride another bike it has to be at least 20 yrs old  ::)

February is renewal so I'll bargain/shop around. Inc Post Office!

The Norwich Union Rider policy was one of the best. I wonder if there is anything like that available these days ?. After the N.U. policy finished I used to ride all my bikes on a Motor Trade policy. Easy, as you could ride anything but 3rd party road risks only. That was ok for the old heaps of junk but I had a 3 month old CBR 600 written off in a flood about 1990, I mean totally wrecked, and the insurance company wouldn't pay out. These days you can actually have fully comp on bikes on Motor Trade Policies but even at my great age it's about £1400 per year  >:( >:(
