Bitsa, i have a mate that has a XJ 1200 drag bike. I have had them re-chromed and put in so many different seals that i lost count, they still had a light misting. In the end he put a small hole in the dust caps and pumped them full of silicone. That worked

Someone once suggested that the chrome can were thin but I find that hard to believe.

Yours sounds like you have over filled then Mick. 220cc is for a total clean out. some people drain them from the drain bolts and then put in 220cc, not thinking about the 20 to 30cc left in the forks.

Do you think they will still leak if I just drain and refill them.

They should not leak if you drain them and not re-fill them ;)

It is winter Mick. Give them a good service and if they are off, give the head stock bearings some new grease.

OK so I'm legal as long as they don't leak - cheers. as for the washers, I don't get why they are their underneath the cir clip if they don't belong. it's defo a k4 by serial number.May leave them out ???
Looking at the seals there is a spring in top and bottom so still not sure which is top. One u tube said the slight rounded edge  is the top so may go for that. Copy link in your browser.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sc9UkR4C7-E                         AND SEE WHAT YOU THINK! They are the same as i bought

I am obviously stripping all the tubes and replacing parts that are tired, such as head race bearings, gators, springs(small rebound) chrome shrouds, bolts and washers, so how much oil is needed in each one from dry (in uk ml please!)
Thanks for the help so far.
Antony

Knowing me I probably overfilled them I always get confused when the amounts are in CC

Mick

I got lucky filling my forks, among a washing machine soap (liquid) they used to give a dispenser ,it was marked at 60cc and 100cc,
perfect for the 160cc I needed !!

still don't know how the washing machine works !!

About the oil level in a front fork leg.
Think some measure/distance was given from top of leg to level down the tube for my 75/5 BMW.
To be checked with a piece of steel wire. Like the oil pin in the motor.

Sorry, just been into the US forum. They have a lengthy discussion on front fork oil!
