Rear Shocks - advice please
« on: January 11, 2015, 11:26:03 AM »
Hi Chaps
I have Hagon shocks on this 400/4. On the nearside bottom fixing the PO has put 3 washers on to move the bolt out by a nano so the end of the bolt misses the nuts that hold the sprocket on. Should I also put a couple of washers on the fixing at the top of the shock, there is only 1 at the moment, so it brings the top out by a nano as well and should I do the same on the offside even though there is nothing for the bottom bolt to foul on ?

Ta in advance
Julie

Hi Julie,
The PO washers were probably to make up for incorrect length bolts, the shocks should line up when fitted as per parts drawing.---Ken

Thanks Ken. That makes sense, I will cut the end of the bolt off.
Thank you

I would not be cutting the bolt if it is the right length. what you may find is that the shock eyes are slimmer than the OEM, so the PO has put washers in to pack it out.

Somebody who has originals could be nice and measure the length of the bolt and the distance across the outside of the original fittings for you, unless 500 are the same I can't help there tho'

Do you actually measure the head of the bolt,(Sorry Chaps, never have known where to measure from), if you do mine are 10x43 ish, so too long. A 10x32, without the head, would be about 2 mm too short and that not alowing for a washer
