U.K.import duties
« on: January 19, 2015, 08:58:44 PM »
Quick question. If I buy valves, valve guides and spring retainers from the USA for around £250, what am I going to be hit with in import duties, VAT etc when they arrive. Anyone got any experience with bringing stuff in from US.  :-\ :-\

Motorcycle parts have a import duty of 3.7% and a VAT rate of 20%. So lets say the parts are £250 + $50 shipping. You will have to pay duty of £10.47 + VAT of £69.16 and parcel force will Hi-jack it and put on another £8.00 to £13.50.

It's a right rip off really, especially the charge the parcel force put on. Totally different if sending out UK, sold some NOS YZF race kit parts about 3 weeks ago to a chap in Vancouver,Canada. When I filled in the custom forms I put down 'used bike bits', thinking they would not be subject to their verson of VAT, Goods and Service Tax, but the lad told me they don't even have to pay the GST on new bike bits either  >:( >:(

Roy, sent you an E-mail on 8th Dec.
"Roy, found the petrol tap yesterday. Been taken apart (rivets drilled
out) and connecting nut missing, so in a bit of a sorry state but
looks to be all there. Want a photo ?"

Doubt you didn't see it. I am off to Egypt tomorrow morning for a week so will send you a photo when I get back (of the petrol tap, not a camel  ;D )
