engine oil
« on: February 13, 2015, 12:58:55 PM »
Hi all,
I think it was Bitsa who was talking about Diesel motor oil for the SOHC bikes a few weeks ago.
The brand in question was the Tesco own brand, I cannot get hold of this at any of my local stores.
The question is will any decent brand 10/40W MINERAL diesel oil be ok I have found a couple on the net with free delivery.
How about this one Triple QX 10/40W mineral diesel motor oil.

I tried 20W50 halfords classic but I personally got lots of clutch slip with it. So I switched to Halfords 15W40 Mineral Oil (Blue bottle) and it seems good to me

I've used the Triple QX 10w40 semi synthetic on a couple of bikes with no clutch issues whatsoever  - they deliver free as well

Really?! Personally I'd not like to run a bike long term on oil that was suitable for running in. Likewise I'd not like to run in a bike on oil that offers superb wear resistance as you want the bores, rings, pins and shells to wear to match each other.

Just use a decent 10(15)w40 for both and do changes at 500, 1500 thaen every 1500 (or annualy).

If its running all original Honda parts they are built as if they are run in anyway and just need bedding down, the first oil change is to remove any floating cr*p that was in the crankcases

Dare I mention you should only use motorcycle specific engine oil in bikes? :) It's designed for use with wet clutches, but more importantly contains molecules that withstand the mashing from the wet gearbox :-X.

Lynx,
That's why you use the diesel one as this is the same with the mashing from the turbo etc.
If you look back through the threads you will see one where Bryan has gone into it giving the spec of the Tesco diesel being the correct one.
