Can I have the last word on this one...........for a while at least  ;D ;D ;D. I have put 10/40 semi synthetic in my 400 this time. Definately no clutch slip.

Porkys, your clutch was slipping but, it was down to the adjustment  ;D ;D ;D

Yes Graham, your right, it was my naff cable adjustment that gave me a slipping clutch, nothing to do with the oil though ::) ::) ::)

I found a new oil but i never tried it: Fuchs Silkolene.
They got also a classic line for vintage bikes called Silkolube 20W50. http://www.fuchslubricants.com/silkolube-20w-50

What do you think about it? Anyone used it?

Now i am using Motul mineral 20W50 with some  ZDDP aditive.
The is also from Motul the Classic Car linehttp://motul.speclube.com/products/all-products/classic-oil-20w50-2l/.

I.ve used Silkolene Transfleet 15w40 for years, its exactly the spec that Honda wanted---even if it is a "Fleet" diesel oil

I have just serviced all my bikes with Fuchs as I got it cheap through my brother. :) I don't know what was in my cg125 but the clutch was slipping so bad I thought it was toast. Silkolube 20w50 fixed it instantly it has also made the 750 a little quieter at tick over.I have also put Fuchs Titan 10w60 car oil in my Guzzi as its a lot cheaper than the bike equivalent. The sales rep were my brother works told me you don't actually get specific car, bike,Diesel or petrol oils they print it on the cans to gain customer confidence. As long as you use an oil of the right grade or better than you wont have any problems.

Opie oils (http://www.opieoils.co.uk/) can be decent for getting specialist oils, they do pretty much everything tbh.

Semi Synthetic lasts longer but it must be at least JASO MA spec for wet clutch use. Use supermarket mineral oil for the first few hundred miles of running in.

Once Iv finished restoring my bike I was going to use 10/40 semi for a couple of standing heat cycles as it's quite a thin oil to flush out any crap before filling with the correct oil for normal riding.

you might want to consider a basic 10-40 mineral oil for running in,give the surfaces chance to mate and bed in,
alot of the new oils are to slippery, and will not let bores and rings bed in properly, causing poor compression and
high oil comsumption.

Car oil is OK, as long as it is for turbo diesel engines. Diesel engines need the same spec for the turbo unit as we need it for the clutch and gears.

I'm not disputing all your combined knowledge as I'm new to these particular bikes of this age. But I ran my 98 CBR600 on semi synthetic car engine oil for 4 years and many thousands of miles with no issues??
