CB750K6 exact year of manufacture
« on: March 18, 2015, 06:30:46 PM »
hi, i have a Honda CB750K6 frame number: CB7502576566  its a 1976 model year that was first registered in the UK in July 1977. According to data on this site the K6 model was manufactured from Dec 1974 to June 1976.
i am trying to determine when it was actually manufactured as it may now qualify for tax exempt status due to changes announced in the 2015 budget.
i've tried all the usual vin number search sites but they dont apply to pre 1980 bikes and the rest of the information i can find is vague on the subject, anyone know how to find out when this frame number was actually manufactured between Dec 1974 to June 1976 ?
thanks
Laurence

Dont believe the figures quoted on the US site. Bryan may have the right information from a Honda parts book. Don't think you will be able to get a tax exempt for a few years yet, the DVLA run it on the registration date as far as i know. Another member may have a different view on this.

the DVLA do run it on the registration date unless you can provide evidence of the actual date of manufacture, the tax free staus applies to the manufacture date not the registration date. assuming honda would have sold the 1976 models from august 1975 in the UK they would have had to start manufacture sometime in 1975, i think your right about the US data though, does sound a bit odd making '76 models as far back as Dec '74.

While we're on the subject does anyone know if the bikes qualify automatically or do you have to  notify dvla and let them know when your particular bike is of age?
Thanks in advance   I have 3 75 bikes so the hobby is getting cheaper?....ish

Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought it's free road tax for anything over 40 years, currently pre 1975.  (Roll on August 28th)
Where's that 10mm socket got to?

Mike,it has never been a roll over date, when it was first brought in,it was a fixed date, and stayed  static, this is the
first alteration I know of,

James,were is the VIN plate on a CB500-4 ?
Bryan tell me its a 73-K1,based on frame and engine numbers.

but how do I prove it to the happiness of the DVLA ?

the free tax scheme for vehicles over 35 years (original scheme) was brought in by the last consevative govt intending it to roll over every year, that lasted 1 year before labour came in and cancelled the roll over bit so it stayed at vehicles registered before Jan 1st 1973 until the conservatives came back in and started it rolling again, it's currently pre Jan 1st 1974 and come April 1st 2015 it will be vehicles manufactured before Jan 1st 1975.
its up to you to notify and prove to the DVLA that your vehicle was manufacfured before the 1st of Jan 1975 from April 1st 2015. the 1st of January is the date that the govt use as their datum.

The DVLA are grey faced automatons with no emotions at all, they remind me of the Borg.  Even their headquarters by J46 of the M4 is cube shaped

On my US bikes it's riveted on the RHS of the headstock (as your sitting on the bike). VIN number should be stamped on the LHS of the headstock.

I've also got a 500/4 K1 - if you want to PM me your vin I can cross check with mine and send you a photo of the VIN on my K1...

To convince DVLA you need a "Proof Of Year Of Manufacture" letter from Honda UK at the cost of about £30.

Model year 750K6 start CB750-2540001~
