Hello from the North East of England
« on: April 23, 2015, 05:05:33 PM »
Hello everybody. I got here from the sohc.net forum.

I've got a 1973 K2, US Import that I'm trying to get running nice. The bike looks good and original and has had some work done on it. It's passed an MOT but won't run correctly. I'll post my problems else where.

Nice to meet you all.

Chris

Welcome to the world of the SOHC. There is a ton of info on here to get your problem sorted. USA carbs are a bugger and need a very good clean inside.

Welcome Chris. I've had quite a bit of experience recommissioning US bikes. All the usual things but start with a thorough carb clean, new plugs, fresh oil and filter, check your HT leads / caps, file / adjust the points...if you're thorough and methodical you'll get there.

Welcome Chris, you are in the right place here for friendly advice & banter.
Whereabouts in the NE are you? Was there in the 70's in Newcastle then latterly  Sunderland. Remember the Westgate Raod in Newcastle being a Mecca for bikers/bike shops. Think Harry Woods was the Honda 5-star dealer and Cowies in Sunderland. There was also an old  motorbike shop in Sunderland at the back of the Poly somewhere. A guy called Crozier ran it but he was never there, as he was always in the boozer up the road. His place was crammed with old Brit bikes but he had a really nice Honda  Benly CB92 once  that I was after (rare even then) . Camped outside the pub at closing time one night to try to do a deal with him on it but he told me in no uncertain terms to sod off.

Thanks All for the warm welcome.

Ash, I'm on the coast in between Newcastle and Sunderland. I got my first bike from Harry Woods in 1973. Seems a long time ago now!

I was at the College too, both as a student between 79 to 84 doing my tickets, then I went back there in 2004 as a lecturer until 2008. Great place.

Wasn't there a place called the 'Chelsea Cat' there around that time, Steve?
