7/8 Handlebar to 25mm conversion.
« on: June 03, 2015, 09:01:14 AM »
I have the chance to get a set of bars that are 25mm and very expensive for a good price, but the clamp is 7/8 on my cb500 and the bottom section is built into the  triple tree. Is there a simple and easy quick fix to change to 25mm clamping or is it a non starter. Thanks.

If it was the other way round you could use a collet, but that way you can't get  something big into a small hole

Yes, stumped on this one i think. Is there such a thing as triple tree with a 25mm clamp available for the cb500?

You could just source a second hand triple tree upper and give it to a machine shop to line-bore out to 25mm dia (or just under so you get an effective clamping force. Are the bars knurled where they are clamped?

You can get converters, a quick ebay search turned this up, I'm sure you will find what you want if you look hard enough.  :)

I'm not a complete idiot.....some parts are still missing.

Sounds like a lot of work as you will also need to source new switch gear, twist grip & mounts for brake & clutch levers.

I did an Ebay search and saw those after i posted my second reply, when you take into account the clamp price and shim price because they are 28.6mm i meight as well stick with 7/8 bars. Pros and cons i expect. Found  an adjustable riser set which i might be needing for the project as the top tube of the bike is very long. Time to work out costs and sizes to go for.

Old parts came with the project i can use but im going to get new stuff or clean this up and use, all boils down to cost and the look of the bike. Money is making all the choices right now.
