« on: July 23, 2015, 09:02:16 PM »
Got these bits left over during rebuild - can anyone identify please (bike is 75 engine in 76 frame)-item on right is from air box but wont fit with present paper filter housing arrangement - Also can someone answer following:

1- Diam of standard front brake bleed screw.-looks like 8mm but Wemoto have supplied 7mm!
2- Does front brake caliper have a dust seal.
3- Can someone confirm that wiring for left/right indicators, horn, start button, etc travels through the handlebars?
4 -Any one got a return spring for footrest - left side

As regards 1, are you talking about the size of the hexagon that you put the spanner on, or the thread? Regarding 2, No. there is no dust seal on front caliper, if you bought an aftermarket repair kit for the caliper thry are often generic for several makes/models, and some other makes use a dust seal, Honda chose not to, so you don't need that bit. As for 3, yes, the wires do go through the bars as standard, but you may have aftermarket bars without the relevant holes, or frustrated previous owner that has filed the swithgear to allow the wires to run outside the bars.

The item on the right goes in the bottom of the air box on a 550F1 and F2. If your air filter does not have a hole in the bottom for this part to fit in the air filter will be from a CB500 Four.

Part in the middle is a harness/loom bracket and should have a plastic cover.

The size referred to in item1 is thread diam not hex nut end.

If ypur caliper had an 8mm thread nipple, it's been bodged and tapped oversize, usual reason is the blleed nipple siezing in place, and instead of penetrating oil, patience and heat which will often free it, they've tried brute force and snapped it off, and then drilled out the remains and probably tapped it to a nipple they had rather than the correct thread..

Yes on closer inspection bleed nipple hole in front caliper has been re tapped to suit next available size up - 8mm at thread- not the best job but its not seeping fluid and will have to do for now. Have swallowed my pride and apologised to Wemoto. Have searched through the last box of bits and found another caliper end (the part that holds the piston) but the two main securing holes are spaced further apart with a slightly different overall profile to the one presently on the bike, must be for another model - which is a bit of a bugger!. Beginning to wonder now about the front brake handlebar assembly having had to slightly file the new circlip and plain washer which were both oversize - these hold the plunger arrangement in position.

If the thread for the nipple on the wide spaced calipet is okay, it's certainly worth selling on e-bay, such calipers only rarely come up for sale, and seem to fetch good money. Dave Silver spares do excellent replica bodies for the caliper for your bike, £39+ george osborne's share if you prefer standard bleed nipples. Also does replica master cyl for £29 + v.a.t. Probably cheaper than a genuine repair kit.
