No yet! I've sent the front forks for rechroming, petrol tank and side panels are getting painted and Menno did not give me a lead time, how long did it take to you? I'm not in a rush the bike is in parts right now for powder coating I hope it is ready by the end of September I just need to get all the bits together :)

Hi guys.

What would be the best way to contact the guy in Germany regarding a quote?

Cheers

Hello Everyone. My name is Menno Dek. I'm Dutch but I work and live in Germany.
I've been riding Honda since I was 16. That is a while back by the way.

At the moment I'm specialised in spraypainting Honda colours from the seventies. I've done some work for other SOHC members.

If anyone has questions about colours or paint, I'm happy to anwer them.

Cheers, Menno.

So, as maybe some of you have noticed, after Noelia contacted me I've joined this forum. I'm not anywher near Sussex however mail is helping out a lot.
I live realy in the middle of nowhere in germany but I'm actualy from Amsterdam.

Anyway, through internet it is now possible for me to work wherever I live so I have customers from Sweden to Malta.

Normaly a paintjob takes about 1,5 month. That is also since I have the tanks chemicaly cleaned. (takes about 2 weeks).
The advantages of chemicaly cleaning are many. No more rust. Inside is completely new as well so that saves on cleaning and extra innercoating.
And off course you know what the basis of your tank is.

I've asked Noelia if she is ok with me posting some pictures of her tank (she said yes) so here they are:

If you want a price estimate simply send me an email (tanklackieren@hotmail.de) and add a couple of pictures if that is possible.

Remember that most of these tanks have had a long life and it is rare to see a tank in such a good condition like Noelia's.

The Honda colours on my website are the colours I have painted sofar. It is not complete by far.
I'm just collecting colours like someone else would collect ... I don't know... stamps?

Some colours you can buy as a kit on ebay or so but there are also colours no one knows anymore how they are made.
There is a base colour and over it a candy 'see through' paint which gives the final colour. A bit like spraying a yellow metallic base and over it blue candy.
It should end up green as we all learned in school. However it doesn't always work like that. The paint in the 70's was different than todays paint.
It coloured more deeply but faded really quick. To try to reproduce a 70's colour with no real clue of what they actualy used is quite a chalenge.
For instance I did a Kawasaki super candy green last month and had a realy nice NOS sidepanel to match. However Kawasaki used a silver metallic base with on top of it
nothing more than green candy. I could not reproduce it using the same protocol. In stead I had to go with a blue metallic base and over it green candy.
And I had to keep in mind that the NOS was already faded a bit of course:

Honda colours that cannot be bought in a paintkit are for instance Honda cb 550 candy kent brown or Honda cb 350 candy panther gold.

Starlight gold I have never seen upclose. I know it exists but I need a good sample to reproduce it. Same for instance with honda cb350 four in black.
I thought it was exell black but it is actualy glory blue black. So there are still many colours to be discovered.

That is why I would like to give this advise: Don't clean or sandblast your tank before the colour you want reproduced is registered. That is when it's a special colour.
For instance a colour which you cannot find on my website.

For me it would be a nice idea to have a library of colours so when someone is restaurating it is easy to find the desired original like colour.
And therefore you are always welcome : www.tanklackieren.de / Honda colours

Loving your work Menno and your commitment to a perfect job. It's great when people like yourself join us on here, so keep contributing and I am sure it will only add to your business. I hear only good reports from JamesH  and Noelia on here, about your work.

My only concern is the cost of  shipping both ways to Germany. Can you give us an typical estimate of the both way shipping please ?

I was told by the painter in the UK, who did my Candy Ruby Red CB750K0 paint set that the stripes were painted in 'Sunny Gold' metallic  .. I think this was also used on the side panel badges and I am looking for a source of this, in say touch up form, as I had my side badges rechromed and need to paint them.

I am still prepping my pair of  two-tone 1969  CB250K0  tank set's so that you can quote for me soon.

Unfortunately I can only tell you the price it would be to ship a tank and sidepanels to the UK. I don't know how much it costs to ship it to Germany from the UK.

Shipping to the UK From Germany is 23 euro. (17 Pond sterling)

Menno, we have a paint company in the UK witch do very good paint match >>http://www.rsbikepaint.com/en-gb/colours.php
The problem we have in the UK is a painter wants to blast a tank first and he/she does not put in the time and care to get it right.
