400/4 fusebox
« on: August 02, 2015, 08:50:33 AM »
Hi all, well, yesterday my nice wee reliable 400/4 decided to throw a wobbler, and cut out on me all together. Cut a long story short, the fusebox had started to melt, (old and brittle fuse clips) and the ignition fuse fell out, managed to patch it up to get home, but the box is gubbed.

Silvers want nearly sixty quid for a new one, incl vat and carriage. On searching fleabay I notice that there are others that look the same, but are designated for different models (CB500T, CB250RS, etc).

Does anyone know which others are suitable for the 400/4? I can't think that the wiring would be all that different?

thanks a million!

It depends if you're going for originality on a part that hidden away, or functionality.  If you just want it to work, any fuse holder will do - even a modern one with the spade type fuses.
Alternatively, get it working with spade fuses going into crimp on spade terminals and keep looking for an original at a decent price.
Where's that 10mm socket got to?

I sold one of these a while ago - it was in a collection of parts I bought.
From the digging around I did before listing it it seems the same box was used on the 400/4, 500T, 550F/K and 750A/F.
That might narrow your search a bit.
P/N is 38200-377-005.

There are two types of fuse box 1) has 3 fuse holders, 2) has 5 fuse holders but, in the 5 fuse box the top and bottom holders are for spare fuses

When I got mine the fusebox had been bypassed by a previous owner with in line fuses and it wasn't a very good job, so I bought a second hand fuse box from this guy, you have to email him for prices and I can't remember exactly how much it was but it was a lot cheaper than DS.

How about this one:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Honda-CB500T-Fuse-Box-CB-/181798254118?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item2a54053626
P/N quoted is from the 400 Parts List which only shows one type.
I did notice some boxes on eBay with three holders listed as being for 550 and 750 models from early 70's.
Guess one with the same connector as the original will save any need for rewiring.

Hi FrasMac,

I replaced mine with DS version a few months ago. My old one looks a bit tatty and has no lid but was still working. You can have it if you like. If so, PM me and I'll send you a photo or two to see if it's worth bothering with.

Cheers, D.
