Seat pan
« on: August 07, 2015, 07:47:36 AM »
As my seat has a split I have stripped it down and to treat the rust, however I have found a couple of cracks. Do you you guys just weld them up or should I add some reinforcing strips across them?

While I'm here I've been looking at some Carb Refurb kits. Starting with DSS at £20 each or on eBay a kit of 4 for just under £30 from Japan. Is price just the difference?

Also on eBay an exhaust, original headers and collector if your interested. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Honda-CB400-Four-genuine-OE-exhaust-system/391215284022?_trksid=p2047675.c100009.m1982&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D29975%26meid%3D713b278e83764ac79d58c3bc5325ed69%26pid%3D100009%26rk%3D4%26rkt%3D10%26sd%3D252042377563

Exhaust from our once member bikepusher. Probably another nice bike met it's maker to yield it  :(

Not many people do.
I got my carb refurb kits from the states, still cheaper than silvers even with the import duty.

The best way to go with a metal seat pan is, blast all the paint off it and have a real good look at what you have. If you just weld up any splits, it will split again. Re-in force it from the inside and powder coat.
The carb fits from Japan are spot on.

If these are the ones you are looking at on eBay then a number of us on here (myself included) have used this kit and other parts from Cruzinimage and they seem OK.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/75-77-HONDA-CB400F-CARB-REPAIR-KIT-4-Repair-Kits-are-Include-48-1902-/252042377563?hash=item3aaee5795b

I also see that the exhaust you mentioned is from bike-pusher, who I think has had a few mentions on these forums.

Hi.
I have used the carb kits from Cruzinimage and they are very good. They also arrive in about 4-5 days with no import duties. Why pay more than you need to?

It's not that I don't like him Roy, there were  some reasonable comments he came out with on here and anyone who knows me would say I generally tend to see the good in people not the bad. It's just the breaking of nice bikes that I am uneasy with. In all honesty I am a bit of a hypocrite, as I have said  on here before, because I have bought parts knowing that the bike they came from was  almost certainly a nice example broken for its lucrative parts. Ralph never liked him though and dispatched him rather sharply with one of his killer posts !

No, so I am not really in a position to judge him. One weird thing was though that when he joined (because someone on here accused him of bidding up on his own stuff, which he adamantly denied) there was an feature  in one of the mags on the 400/4 with his mugshot in it but he denied it was him to start with, when I asked him. Then he  said it maybe was him after all.  One thing you can say about him is he doesn't start his prices off at silly money. Others on here have actually bought his stuff and met him, so more in a position to comment.

One of the good guys seems to be Charlie  at Oxford Classic Honda (fatgarrett on eBay) and I have warmed more to DK in recently years. Never dealt with freddiethefatfrog, as he doesn't even bother replying to emails.

Do you like my new Avatar Julie  ;D

It was taken when the bike featured in ClassicMechanics in about 2011. Sadly it will have to become it's proper Varnish Blue very soon  ;)

Here is my daughter Katie with it

BTW we seem to be hijacking this post... sorry my fault mate !   Agree with Trigger on the seat resto. Blast the base and then take it from there depending on the overall condition and do any repairs on the underside if its a keeper.
