400/4 spark plug helicoil
« on: August 10, 2015, 08:59:03 PM »
Looking to sort the plug threads on my 400/4. From past posts, helicoils look to be the way to go.
I have read the inserts can come out when you take the plugs out?? Has anyone had any issues with helicoils?
Many thanks
Harold.

Had one done on my CB175K6 back in the day. It was perfectly fine afterwards - good as new

A Wurth insert or sometimes called a timesert is better, it's like a metal tube that's threaded inside and out. Offers better heat dissipation as well.
If it's got tits or wheels, it's hassle, if it's got both, RUN!!!

If it's just the beginning of the thread then you might like to consider a back tap. I recently used one and while the tool is not perfect at £30 it will do, there is an ideal one state side at over £100. I got mine from motorcycleproducts.co.uk.
