Fork Oil Seal Removal
« on: October 14, 2015, 03:43:39 PM »
Has anyone got any tips for removing stubborn fork oil seals?
There is a thread in the 'Tricks and Tips' section that suggests gently lifting with a screwdriver (http://www.sohc.co.uk/index.php/topic,2992.msg17999.html).
Everything to this point came apart easily but the seals seem happy where they are and don't want to budge, and I don't want to damage the fork legs.
Any thoughts?

Heating the fork legs in the area of the seals with a heat gun and gently prying the seals with a metal bicycle tyre lever has worked for me in the past.

Good tip! Thanks Luke.
This worked for me, although I needed something with more leverage than a bicycle tyre lever as the ones I have are very short.
So no excuse not to get on with the job now.
