Front and rear wheel spacers (collars) CB400F
« on: October 15, 2015, 01:17:26 PM »
Does anyone know the dimensions for the front wheel spacer and the two rear wheel spacers?

I don't think I have the right ones on my bike as the rear wheel doesn't fit in the swingarm. The bike came with a different set of wheels and when I a combination of those spacers it fits and the alignment is correct.

If I can get the correct dimensions I will get some stainless steel ones made up.

Cheers

I had dug out a G5 front hub I have (same as the 400, spacer has same P/N) before I saw Rirons post so I've measured the spacer from that anyway.
O/D 22.0 mm
I/D 15.1 mm
Length 17.0 mm
There is a chamfer on the inner edge at each end as shown in the photo, not sure how vital it is.

The chamfer is there to stop people injuring themselves when handling it, and it also makes putting the spindle in marginally easier as there is a tiny amount of leeway to insert it, so quite important really!.
If it's got tits or wheels, it's hassle, if it's got both, RUN!!!

Just measured the spacers

Rear wheel drum side 30 x 18 x 30long
Sprocket side 30 x 18 x 33 long
It easy to mix them up as I did it but it obvious when you look at the sprocket alignment not sure if you can get them from DS if not I'm going to draw them it and make some SS ones

Front has a 22 x 15 x 17 long plus a flanged bearing bush which I'm just drawing up at work as this is unobtainium I'll post the drawing when done

For info my wheels are spoked

Let's me know if you need anything else as I have it all broken down while I respoke and clean the grotty hubs

Cheers guys very helpful. Well that explains why I couldn't get the rear wheel in then.

Both my rear spacers measure 30x18x33 long, that 3mm makes all the difference! the one I used off the other set of wheels is 29mm long.

I'll get some made up in stainless I think.

Thanks again!

The one from the rear sprocket side will have a shiny band where the rubber seal has been rubbing on it.  The other side shouldn't have.

If you still need confirmation of collar lengths, I can have a rummage in junk boxes over the weekend, should still have the originals somewhere as I never throw anything away. My current ones were machined from a lump of 316 stainless.

Also if I remember right one, of the rear bushes has a center groove, probably as a marker so the factory knew which one was which.

Dave

If you could have a look that would be great,  I would rather have more info, plus it might help someone else out too.

How much did it cost to get them made up in stainless?

Ok I will have a look when I'm home at the weekend.

The new spacers, I made them myself using a small model making lathe.

Glad you started this thread as I had all the parts laid out on the bench at work today while cleaning only for the apprentice to move and muddle them all up and I didn't know which side had the wider spacer
