Ethanil kit in Classic Bike.

Novembers edition of Classic Bike has an article about Ethanol in petrol and removing it with the Ethanil kit. There a bit slow, Honda-SOHC has had that one covered for a while now. ;D ;D

Please excuse my ignorance, but what's the idea behind removing the ethanol from the fuel?

Ethanol is well documented for attacking rubber parts on older vehicles (fuel lines, carb "o" ring etc), also it readily absorbs water from condensation in the atmosphere, and it sits in the bottom of your fuel tank, rusting it away from the inside and clogging carbs.
