Clutches from Cruzinimage
« on: November 20, 2015, 05:35:00 PM »
I have used a Cruzinimage clutch on the rebuild of the 350F (mainly due to the cheap price).
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HONDA-CB350F-CLUTCH-PLATE-SET-7-Friction-Plates-INclude-CD-1140-/262136672845?hash=item3d0890324d

Now its operational there is a huge amount of clutch drag and the adjustment bolt is on the very end.

Are these clutches any good or should I open it up and fit a proper item. Been using Gecko clutches on the 750 from Wemoto and they have been excellent.

I definitely put everything back that came out of it, could be the PO lost something along the way. I may need to go through it again I guess.

Should I lose the Cruzinimage clutch as well or are they good.

I thought they didn't supply uk,
They seem to have a UK eBay shop and a US one.
Items in the UK shop are available in the UK (logically enough) but will not ship to Austria, Japan or Israel.
Shipping details for items in the US shop state in red that they will not ship to the UK and also will not ship to Japan, Kazakhstan, Nepal and Mauritius.
Don't know what the logic is.

Did you measure the stack-height (lining and friction plates piled) before installation?

Unfortunately no, I didn't measure the stack height. With hindsight that would have been a good idea.

I did make sure everything that came out went back in. I also checked the plates for surface rust etc, and a quick check if they were warped (only by eye unfortunately).

Have posted 3 pictures below of the assembled clutch in place on the engine. Can anybody tell if it looks wrong, looks okay to me.

Maybe I need to run the engine before I do anything, it may just need bedding in. Perhaps I'm being over cautious again.

I MUST commend Trigger  for getting made, and supplying quality steel one piece push rods, they fit well, and are much stronger
than the 3 piece alloy/steel Honda item,
well worth an upgrade

PS ,but,we all know Trigger loves 99p bargains, and these are a little more -)))))

The steel plates can develop a bit of warp, and then need to be stacked so they lie flat against one another and installed as close to that orientation as possible. Check the basket fingers for any notching, the plates wear into them over time and new ones can bind up on the notches, judicious filing solves that. Widening the slots a bit doesn't hurt, just increases backlash slightly.

I'd measured the old stack vs the new one to confirm the old linings being worn down/below limit.
Also: did you soak the new friction plates with (your) engine oil prior installation?

The plates were put in a plastic zip bag with clean 10W40 oil and left to soak for 24 hours. They were in the engine though for many weeks before the engine oil went in. Guess they may have dried out a bit, but the oils in now and the engine has been cranked a fair bit.

The steel plates all went in with the sharp edges to the back (as they came out). They were clean and didn't appear to be warped (as I said though only checked by eye).

Don't think the stack is thicker though as the adjustment bolt is at its very end. If anything, something may be missing though I don't know what.

Found this image online of a removed clutch assembly and the back plate looks way higher than mine (although the springs are not tightened down). Think I shall take it apart again somethings not right there.

Compare your clutch with an exploded diagram,  maybe you've got a spacer in backwards or something.

Looked at loads of pictures now and my back plate is further in. Somethings missing. Will pull it out and compare it to the exploded parts diagram. The clever money would have been on doing that in the first place. DDeeerr. ::)
