oil leak
« on: November 25, 2015, 05:51:34 PM »
good day, i am trying to get my bike ready for MOT.
I have several issue to sort out I guess an oil leak is quite important.
I have taken the bike out on several occasion around the block to see if oil level was good.
I have sorted the level but I have had oil spitting out from the hole where the tachometer would be inserted. (i don't mount a tacho so it is not blocked).
Can anyone suggest a solution to stop this leak that eventually ends up on the exhaust and gets the whole situation smokey.

thanks

Forget eBay that was a bad call. But my favourite website has them for 15 dollars.

Dennis, you mean that by changing the seal and leaving it empty will stop the leak?
Thanks

It should do, buy a genuine Honda one, less than £2 from D.S.S.

As Hairygit said it will stop the leak, but it would be nice to cover up the hole to stop road salt water and other nasties from filling the hole, here is some more info

So from what I've just read, you took the seal from another rocker cover? Don't waste your time and effort hoping a seal of unknown age or previous use will fix your problem, could even make it worse! Just get a new one, better safe than sorry!

it came off a spare cover for the same model/year, it looks in good conditions.
I'll see if it leaks, if it does I'll get a brand new one.
thanks

Unfortunately also with the new washer it's leaking a bit. I was thinking I could use the tacho cable (is it?) to block the hole an blank it.
Has anyone tried this before?
Thanks

Surely you are bound to get a leak unless the hole is completely sealed in some way, by the cable or otherwise.
Saw this, at £10 it seems cheap enough and I reckon it should stop your leak.
