Has anyone fitted a cam chain with a rivet link .and is it easy to do

Done it on my 400.  I used a split link to join the new chain to the old one, turned the crank until the new one is fed through, then used the soft link.  I used a large hammer on the back as an anvil.  The whole job only took an hour.

Only way to do it on a 450/500 twin and if its the same size chain there is a Honda part number

It wasn't really doing it that was the issue. it was if it was safe to do .wasn't sure if you could have a rivet link in it .

They are all riveted originally----don't magically arrive in one piece from the engineering dimension
