Smokey Exhaust CB500
« on: January 24, 2016, 01:09:27 PM »
Hi everyone,

Having sorted out the sticking clutch problem, after a road test I noticed that the Left exhaust is smokier than the right. This has probably been covered before, but does anyone have any suggestions as to why that is? Piston rings or fuel?

Also I noticed that a white vapour/steam is coming from the breather pipe. You can see this on the picture circled in red. I know the pipe shouldn't end there but the PO routed it along the bike to the rear fender. I'll be moving that at some point!

Many thanks, Alan

there is a certain amount of  breather vapour,

as your bike has been stood, and idle, just ride it around, check the oil  stays clean,

don't thrash it,but use it when it get warm,

it could be the rings need a little running, they may be sticky in the pistons,

or the bores may have slight corrosion ,

let it settle down, and see what happens

2nd that, run it 500 miles keeping a very good eye on oil level then change oil and filter. If smoking reduces/disapears change every 1500 or annually

+1 with Bryan. The breather always smokes when the bike has got hot, it is telling you that it wants to go out for a ride  ;D ;D

Thanks guys. I'll be back in 500 miles and asking for your advice if it's still smoking!  ;)
