Assembling 750 debate.
« on: February 11, 2016, 05:53:18 PM »
Just thought I would ask about the assembly of the crankcase halves on a CB750.

I always assemble the crankshaft into the top casing along with the mainshaft, primary chains, and output shaft. But just noticed that the Haynes manual says to assemble it all in the bottom casing, and the Clima manual says to do it my way.

Which is the correct way to do it?

Cheers.

Genuine Honda manual for F2 says put it into the top crankcase with Countershaft, Shift drum, Shift forks, Kick starter into lower case then put lower onto user (engine upside down)  to get the two together.

Found some other inconsistencies. CB400/4 has a gearbox shaft blanking seal that has an oil feed directly under it. One of my manuals says put it in dry, the other says to silicone seal it being careful not to block the oilway. Same inconsistency with all the oil seals that are on the crankcase joint, one place dry the other silicone them. Which is it, as I usually do the silicone thing. Am I doing it wrong?

Good quality seals on very clean cases should seal perfectly without sealant. My theory is don't risk sealant unless Honda mention it in their manual.
