Just bought a 1977 cb750 as my first restoration project!
This was the bike I wanted when I first got into bikes around 1977 when I had to settle on a moped (but I was only 16). My older brother had a 400/4 but I always wanted the 750.
I go to pick it up on Friday and can't wait to get started. Bought it unseen on ebay but it does have a current MOT so I am keeping my fingers crossed.
I have a Ducati Panigale 1299 as my road bike and a BMW s1000RR track bike and am also blessed with a very understanding wife.
Hopefully the members of the forum will be bale to provide some help when I get stuck!
Regards
Jon Tucker

Hi and welcome Jon.

Re the Burtonwood airbase.  Comet had a depot on part of the site and one of the guys there told me that some people refused to work the night shift there on the grounds that it was haunted.

Apparently, during WW2, bombers returning from Germany would have sustained damage from flak and Luftwaffe fighters and some of the dead aircrew didn't look a pretty sight.  At Burtonwood, the corpses were made more presentable before being repatriated back to the US.
Where's that 10mm socket got to?

Burtonwood was also the intended destination of the RB29 that crashed on Dark peak near Glossop

Welcome to the sohc Forum John................for the benefit on 'Non Lankies and Non Cestrians' on here, this is a bit of useless information about RAF Burtonwood.

At it's height, RAF Burtonwood was home to over a THOUSAND US aircraft.

The USAAF Base at Burtonwood had it's own PX Stores, numerous Bars, Cinemas and even a Bowling Alley.

The UK was affectionately known as 'Americas biggest US Aircraft Carrier' and during the Berlin Airlift Burtonwood was the central warehouse for goods shipped from the US via Liverpool then onward to Berlin by air.

Now: 2008 CB1300S, CB750K4, 1970 Bonneville. Various other 1960's 650 Triumph T120's/ TR6's/ TR6C's (all in bits...many, many bits unfortunately). Previous: 2007 CB600FA, 1976 CB500 Four. BMW F800ST. GS750E. ZZR1100. CB1300 (2). ZXR1200S. VFR800. CB750 Nighthawk. CX500. XS500 Yam. Suzuki GT500. BSA A10. Various Lambrettas. Zundapp Bella (honest).

Welcome John.

Some good advice on this forum from sensible people.

I used to do motorcycle training/testing at Burtonwood and around the many roundabouts near you (A474 was it?). Don't recall any hauntings but otherwise fond memories of circa 1982.

Cheers, D.
