K7 Tacho needle sticking.
« on: April 03, 2016, 08:18:20 PM »
Hi all, my tacho needle is sticking.  It will go up normally to about 4 thou and then it jams.  A good couple of slaps on the top of the case will make the needle return.

Any advice on how to fix or is it time for a second hand replacement?

Cheers!

The tacho is a simple device with an internal magnet, it's possible that something has been attracted to it and a 'slap' dislodges it temporally. It could be a flake of rust from the inside of the base. The only way that can be fixed is to take it apart to see what the cause is. A replica tacho is available but from what I've read on this forum the quality of them isn't great, basically they are a copy of a Nippon Seiki gauge and not a Nippon Denso gauge originally fitted.

I've a new replica tacho (CMSNL supplied, I understand) that came with my bike but I do not intend to fit it. If you want this type, I would be happy to part with it for very little money.
