Jim (?)

Have you adjusted idle speed screw to compensate anywhere along the line ?  If you have, then there's a good chance that will have changed the 'fast idle' setting on the choke mechanism, and that maybe affecting your choke operation / warm up procedure.  Worth checking to see if the cam on the choke lever (other side of the lever's pivot point at the top of #1 carb) is actually touching / moving the main throttle spindle.

Would you mind telling me where you got your 38 idle jets please ?  I'd be interested to try them on my 400 !

Andy
Hey great advise btw I'll check it when I get home I was thinking it may be something like that. I got the 38's from 4into1 but there not factory made they are aftermarket but they seem to do the job well enough. I tried getting them from jets r us but they don't ship to the UK anymore :(

Same. I'm running k&n pods and my jetting setup currently is #38 pilot and #100 main. No change to the needle position.

If the choke is on the slides are closed to reduce air and increase fuel ? If the choke is off then the slides are open to let the air through?

Did it start ok with the choke before moving the needles? And, I'm sure you are a very experienced 400/4 owner but are you sure you are putting the choke lever  in the correct position for ON/OFF, the arrow on the lever can be somewhat confusing (Don't ask me how I know that !!!!)
Yep it worked perfect before hand when the choke is on its In the up position towards the sky. when the choke is off its down towards the ground....I think lol

Hi guys

Since adjusting my needle height on my cb400f the choke has stopped working. When I now have the choke on from cold starts it does nothing in fact it works the opposite when it's on the bike won't start and when it's off the bike will start but I have to give it a few goods kicks to get it going from a cold start. Any shed some light on why it's doing this? Have I adjusted something I shouldn't of ?

Thanks

Don't faint wish shock everyone but my missus told me on Sunday she wants me to get my 400/4 on the road for 'Sunday jaunts..It last ran in 1986 ! !! ....I think it has larger main jets as it originally had K&N pod filters..... so you can have those if you want them as I am going to get the correct standard ones for it .
Iv got the standard main jets for a 400 4 and the pilots......swapsies?

What size are the mains ?

First port of call if it was mine would be to strobe the timing and make sure the mechanical advancer is working okay. Spitting back can be timing related and it's the easiest thing to check so start there. I assume you haven't had the cam out or anything else.

Iv not had the cam but but I have done the timing.

Hi.
Just a suggestion, you should be able to find all the help you require just by asking questions on the forum. Most of us have had problems with our 400/4's in one way or another in the past that have been resolved using the knowledge of other forum members. It's also free (well, a little donation sometime is most appreciated) so can save a lot of money in the long run.
Julie
Thanks Julie

Iv had a lot of great feedback from the forum over the past few months since iv had the bike and it has helped me out no end. It's just this last little issue I can't get right. Besides it's always nice to know there is a helping hand round the corner if you need it.

Thanks again

« on: June 04, 2016, 07:06:05 PM »
Hey guys just thought I'd let you know that Delkevic are now producing a 4 into 1 for the CB400F. It's been prototyped over the past few weeks and I managed to get my hands on it last week. Here are some pics. Ps it also sounds amazing. It comes with a strait muffler and a cone also.

Cheers
