CB750 / Re: 750 F1 master cylinder seals

Not wanting to hijack the thread, but......

I've got what appears to be exactly the same master cylinder & a set of brake lines for a twin disc set-up in my box of spares, so 2x questions:

1. Does this M/cylinder work well with twin discs?  Why aren't you running the standard one - which I assume has a larger piston.

2. Mine is a mix of black paint and a red/purple. The paint has stripped off but the purple hasn't - although it seems to sand down. Is this an anodised finish? Just curious!

Thanks.

3. Engine Stripdown

The engine as received has had the alternator removed, the starter motor removed, the pick-up cover and pick-ups removed. All these parts and spares are in the boxes of bits but I

CB650 / Brush on engine paints

I'm trying to track down a silver brush-on engine paint for my barrels & engine casings.

Anyone have any recommendations for a good one - and know where it is stocked?

Halfords do lots of spray-on ones, and their big stores offer black or red in a brush on version - they don't appear to have silver anywhere near me.

All my local car suppliers tend to offer sprays only. Is brush on a dying art?!

Cheers

For future reference - be careful opening up the gaps as those things are brittle. I've seen them snap off before which can be a bit of a pain...

CB650 / Indicators
« on: September 06, 2009, 10:33:43 AM »
You need to test all elements of the circuit / wiring.

I'm looking at a diagram that has Green/white; Green; white; wires in the area of the indicator relay.

Green  seems to end without being attached to anything.
Green/white looks like the feed. It comes from the fusebox and also goes to the rear brake switch.
White goes to the handlebar switch.

I would create a circuit with battery positive to to green and white at the relay. Then connect white out of the relay direct to an indicator to bypass your handlebar cluster. Then connect the other wire on that indicator to battery negative. That'll give you a circuit with relay and light. Make sure all the wires in this circuit have continuity before you test the relay.

This will if prove that the relay works.  nb If working it may flash very quickly as it is only feeding a single indicator.

Also check the handlebar switch for continuity across connections. From my diagram:
- White and orange should give continuity when the Left indicator is on and nothing when it is of.
- Pale blue and white should give continuity when Right is on but nothing when it is off.

If all of that is OK but it is not working in situ - then it points to a dodgy wire or earth in the circuit.

Posting pictures separately - found out that one of the files hadn't compressed properly.

2. Sorting it all out.
Having major problems loading piccies for this post. File size adds up to about 90kb which I thought was OK. Annoyingly I managed to delete my first version of this post

Thats a nice looking bike - & loive the carb balancers too!

The instruments piece reminds me of a "revcounter made from a digital bicycle speedo". I've been trying to find the link for it as it's an intersting article. Will post it if I can find it.

CB650 / Re: Frames question
« on: August 28, 2009, 04:29:16 PM »
Cheers Phil - I was comparing your resto picture to one that I found on ebay. The ebay one is pretty unclear although it appeared to have an odd attachment in the seat area.

I've now found a further piccie on the US site which shows the frame behind the tank / engine and also the shock mount.  Logically, the Custom frame continues downwards from the headstock and then rises back up with shock mounting points higher than the riders seat rails, and the pillion seatrails higher than the riders.  The odd

Yours levels out behind the engine / tank and runs horizontally to carry a European style seat...that's what I need so problem solved!

thanks.

CB650 / Frames question
« on: August 28, 2009, 10:49:42 AM »
Hi

I'm investigating frames for 650's as I need one for a project build. I don't want a custom look - just a standard UK bike (is that a Z model?).

Can anyone advise if the 79 / 80 / 81 bikes used the same frames on both the custom and standard model - or does the custom one have differences?

nb - I've looked at a lot of parts fiches for US ones and there are different part numbers, I'm just wondering what the differences actually are (if any) as pictures I've seen look pretty identical.

Be great if someone could post a sideways on picture of either/both of the frame types.

thanks
Andy
