Interchangeability / Re: CB350/4 tank onto a 400/4

They are very different in shape but that doesn't mean that it won't fit. The tank/seat relationship may be a bit suspect.

I bought a cheap set from M&P. Before use I checked the calibration and they turned out to be spot on.

I always use Stainless in non-load critical applications but I also always use copper based grease and so far I have never had a problem with seizure.

I have moved over to using Dowty Washers for the drain plugs of all my vehicles.

They have a bonded in rubber seal for extra security.

Misc / Open / Re: Optimate do I need to disconnect the battery

No problem.

I have an easily accessible charging socket permanently hard-wired to the battery and just plug the charger straight in as required.

POR15 Engine enamel thinned with white spirit and sprayed.

Has resisted petrol and battery acid so far.

What Julie said.

Another drawback with pod filters is having to protect them from water ingress when you wash the bike.

I used POR15 engine enamel on my Moto Guzzi engine after cleaning it and preparing it with POR15 Metal Ready/Prep.

It stayed on when petrol and even battery acid got spilled on it.

I thought all 350/400 rear shocks had a clevis bottom and Eyed top fittings,

They do as far as I know.

A hair dryer will soften the adhesive making it easier to remove the sticker.

CB350/400 / Re: fuel
« on: July 17, 2018, 10:00:05 AM »
What you do need to be wary of is the not the octane rating but the presence of Ethanol in the fuel.

Currently most of the petrol supplied in the UK is E5 and contains 5% ethanol. It is due to move to E10 in the near future. Unlike most other countries there is no requirement in the UK to show the % or even the presence of ethanol in petrol so most people are unaware that it is even there.

Some of the premium grades are ethanol free but this also varies depending on whereabouts you are in the UK.

The ethanol itself will attack the older types of flexible fuel lines but it is also hygroscopic and will absorb water which can cause corrosion of the metallic components in the fuel system. The ethanol can also oxidise on standing to form ethanoic (acetic) acid which is also corrosive and can damage carburettor bodies and brass jets.

Here's a list of biofuel safe materials.

If you cannot be sure of the fuel supply the best thing you can do is to use a fuel additive such as Frost Ethomix and replace all the rubber hoses with biofuel safe materials.

CB350/400 / Re: rear shocks length
« on: July 10, 2018, 02:52:37 PM »
As you have found most after market rear dampers with the lower forked fitting are not quite the correct length.

The only ones that are exactly as needed are the Tec shocks.

CB750 / Re: Braided hoses
« on: July 02, 2018, 08:37:52 PM »
On my CB350F I had a 2 piece  system made up.

The upper section (master cylinder to brake light union) was a direct replacement but the lower section is a single flexible hose with no metal piping involved.
