Misc / Open / Valve seat cutting DIY
« on: April 04, 2012, 02:47:23 PM »
I will be buying a set of valve seat cutters to enable me to do my own valve seats 3 angle job, i have decided on going DIY as i have 4 heads to do on various bikes and recon i will save money as well as getting more job satisfaction, i was quoted 75 + vat to put in guides and the face the valve seats , i was supplying the guides, then  postage  there and back insured £40
So i would certainly save money, and when finished be able to sell the cutters if i wanted
Does anyone have any advise before i  take the plunge,  i have read up on it and also watched video's it all looks quite easy,
Hears how i see it  , clean carbon and crap away from the base of the old guide in head, heat up head press out old guide, press in new guide while still hot, cut valve seat , ream new guide, lap in valve  job done

Misc / Open / Just written off my bike in a nasty accident
« on: January 26, 2012, 09:07:44 PM »
Travelling up a main road in orpington kent to see my mum when a car pulled out smack bang in front of me, impact speed was quite a lot, anyway i went straight over the bars landed real heavy on my wright side on the roof, went along with the car a bit, then got dumped on the middle of the road again on my RHS, ambulance took nearly an hour to reach me, then gave me lots of air/gas and morphine, the bike is totalled, frame, forks, wheel, clocks, mudguard, engine cases, tank levers, switch gear, Etc all ruined
i have clean snapped my humerus bone, so my arm was flapping in all directions, i am bruised and dented up a bit but glad to be alive and out of hospital , so it looks like few months of misery and no earings as i work for myself, and also wont be on a bike for a good while, all the time off i will have and yet i cant get on with anything, none of my restorations,i  cant even wipe my a-se

Misc / Open / Sunday Ride Out
« on: June 19, 2011, 05:40:12 PM »
Hi, the weather looked ok this morning so i decided to take out some of my bikes for a spin, first of all Was the 750F2 i got it warmed up I decided  the oakdene cafe Wrotham was a good ride,  had a good ride, got there and found a fella i know who is also a biker, he was there on his Bandit 1200 rat bike, while talking to him a guy came over and said i had the same bike as his but my carbs were different, so i went over to his bike and it was a lovely clean F1, i told him that his was F1 and mine was F2 and pointed out the many differences, he was well chuffed that he now new it was F1 as he has had the bike 13 years and always reffered to it as a 1976 model, 750 four as written on the side covers which has caused him slight problems when ordering spares,I had a good old talk to him about bikes , he also had a triumph done up as a police bike, and also i discovered he used to work for colin sealey way back,
So i left the cafe after a while went home and got out the 750 K1, the bike fired into life straight away, and i roared off and stuck about 30 miles on that, half on A roads and the remainder through the lanes, i was now buzzing and returned home got My FZ1 1000 out with the intention of going mental and getting a big handfull of adrenaline rush, unfortunately it started to rain a bit so i returned home after only 8 miles without my adrenaline rush , but all the same i still had a good ride feeling pleased i had done my bit earlier for the cb's keeping them as happy as a well oiled machine could be,

Below are a couple of photo's of the Blokes F1 up the oakdene cafe

Other Bikes / Done something bad?
« on: June 07, 2011, 10:35:20 PM »
This has nothing to do with sohc honda's. this is to do with my Klr600, i am looking for opinions on a get out of trouble cheap bodge i have just carried out on my engine
What i have done is rebuild my top end , i got it all assembled, rode it to the mot station, after it passed i rode it around for about 15 miles, then i heard the engine noise increase to a loud tapping, i got the bike home took off the rocker cover only to find one of the cam caps very loose, one of the bolts had pulled up with the stress and stripped the thread, anyway there is no room to drill and insert a helicoil due to the frame ect, i was really peed off and did not want to strip it down again, new gaskets ect, so i remembered when i took apart one of my honda engines i found someone had got round a similar problem by using a oversized course threaded bolt and letting it cut its own path, so i searched my bolt box and found this very bolt, it was the same length as the one that had stripped and was 1 mm wider with a course thread, yes you guessed it, i tried out this and it seemed to work , it has torqued down to spec i have  reasembled my engine and it sounds sweet, i figure that if this does not work then my only other option is to bite the bullet and  remove the head and tap it properly
Any comments welcome
