CB750 / Is this another Ebay bad deal
« on: February 27, 2010, 02:18:48 PM »
Don't want to mention any names here but I saw some 'K0/Sandcast' tank trims go on Ebay for over 80 quid last week.

Looking into history I saw purchase of mini car trim (as I suggested as a substitute for the original item  http://www.sohc.co.uk/index.php?topic=2464.0)

The K0 / Sandcast does not have the black stripes in it. (interestingly the 'Brighton Show' bikes I think did have the black stripes)

The mini trim in the 'history' was:

Bit cheaper than 80 quid !! and would be enough for several tanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

CB750 / Here is a funny story
« on: February 24, 2010, 09:27:38 PM »
Daughter coming home today from Uni for her 21st birthday. Wife getting her bedroom ready and moaning about the unsightly motorbike bits I stored under her bed (actually a brand new set of 4  HM300's and a new front fender!!). Texted me at work to ask where the hammer is to put up a picture in daughters room. Got home - bedroom in state of pristine tidiness apart from a CB750 conrod on the bedside table. What's that doing there I ask, thinking she is becoming interested in my bikes - reply "I couldn't find the hammer but I used that thing instead"    :o GRRRRR !! . It was a knac**red one though so I forgave her  ;). ::)

She also forgave me last year when she came home to find my side covers and airbox drying out in the oven. not to mention in '86 when i bunged my 400/4 crankcases in the dishwasher for a final clean  ;D

CB750 / Red paint on control switches
« on: February 11, 2010, 08:33:47 PM »
Posted this on the US site: Any ideas?

"This is probably one for my UK buddies but here goes. I need to paint the 'Red' on controls of my '69 750K0. looked at my 400/4 ones which were NOS and they are an orangey-red so got a good match, I hope, with 'Humbrol' Gloss Fire Orange (shade no. 209). Question is, are the 750K0 ones the same colour?"

Just glad my right hand one with the black kill switch is very restorable. One went on Ebay NOS for 240GBP this week!!!!!

CB750 / Later gear shift drum and selector forks on K0
« on: February 07, 2010, 01:55:02 PM »
Looking at this Honda Bulletin, am I OK to fit a later gear shift drum and selector forks to give improved shifting.
My bike has 46k miles but I have never ridden it to tell what the shifting was like.

CB750 / Caliper Pin Drawing
« on: January 28, 2010, 08:17:56 PM »
I have had a CAD drawing done for an oversize caliper pivot pin for the CB750K0/K1/K2 if anyone is interested. I am getting on made in Stainless Steel and reaming the hole in the arm and brackets out to 11mm. the standard pin is NLA from Honda and I don't even think Yamiya sell a repro one

CB750 / Anyone actually go and see the K0 on Ebay
« on: December 20, 2009, 06:23:12 PM »
Anyone actually go to see the UK K0 on Ebay last week? Looked like a bargain to me. Maybe it was because it had a K1 engine number, plastic seat base etc but I reckon whoever restored it spent a lot on it.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1970-HONDA-CB750-UK-RESTORED-USEABLE-CLASSIC_W0QQitemZ350290214833QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Motorcycles?hash=item518eec7fb1

Eagle eyed 'viewers' would also notice that it had a '341' rear guard, non cut front guard, wrong tank trim but nevertheless I expected it to go for more. Maybe it's because DK were selling it and not the owner who rebuilt it.

CB750 / K0 chrome tank trim substitute !!
« on: December 01, 2009, 04:44:51 PM »
OK Guys just say if I am becoming a bore!!

Tried to track down the K0 chrome tank trim without the black stripe, other than pay the high price from Yamiya.
A UK Sancast guru told me he used Mini trim and when I did a bit of detective work on the 10k GBP K0 that was on Ebay recently, lo and behold, the sellers history revealed that he too had recently bought some chrome mini trim. Forgot to save the Ebay  detail though.

Here is what I have found similar  and I believe if you cut it down with a craft knife, it can be made too look just like the original.

Anyone else tried this?

CB750 / NOS parts on Ebay can be nearly twice the David Silver Price!!
« on: December 01, 2009, 04:32:22 PM »
I always scan Ebay for CB750 parts - in fact it has become an obsession over the last 12 months!!
I am gradually building up my parts for the big rebuild next spring and spotted this on Ebay. for 5.95GBP

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Honda-CB750-CB500-CB550-Main-Stand-Crescent_W0QQitemZ280429689325QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Motorcycle_Parts?hash=item414ae979ed

Just about to bid for one when I check with David Silver and  the price inc. VAT is 2.58GBP inc VAT !

OK I suppose the postage is very reasonable on the Ebay one  and maybe worth it if you wish to buy a single item and not pay DSS postage but it just shows how reasonable DSS are, and  that you have to be careful.

CB750 / K7 F1 engine parts on a K0
« on: November 30, 2009, 10:01:59 PM »
Hi everyone,

I tried to get a reply to this one on the US site but surprisingly no response.

My 750 K0 was purchased with 40 odd K miles on the clock and had not been used for about 17 years so I never heard the engine running. I have a heap of new or low miles parts for it including crank, barrels and pistons and new genuine chains etc. The original top end I am sure has been replaced as it is in very good condition and there are seals on both inlet and exhaust valve guides.

Here is the question  -  I have quite a few parts from a K7 and F1 engine and these include complete clutch (with the double 'B' plate), shifter forks and shift drum. Since these parts were upgraded on the later bikes (as detailed in Honda Service Bulletins for better transmission shifting etc.), is it worth me using them instead of the original K0 parts? Obviously I would retain the originals for historical reasons.  Also are there any other 'upgraded' parts I should look at using from the later engine?

CB750 / David Silver now selling reproduction 400/4 rear fender & tanks
« on: November 28, 2009, 03:17:13 PM »
I notice that David Silver now sells repro US style rear fenders for the 400/4 at 85GBP

http://www.davidsilverspares.co.uk/parts/part_42971/

He is also doing new fuel tanks in primer for the 400/4 at 159GBP

http://www.davidsilverspares.co.uk/parts/part_86865/

Also Front calipers

 http://www.davidsilverspares.co.uk/parts/part_44057/

Anyone knows who make the fenders and are they any good?

I notice that the 750K0/K1/early K2 front fender has rocketed from last years price of 79GBP to 175GBP.

WHEN IS SOMEONE GOING TO REPRODUCE THE K0 double  CUT FENDER AT LESS THAN $1000 Yamiya charge?

CB750 / Deox-C rust remover
« on: October 22, 2009, 06:01:42 PM »
I bought a CB750 341 style rear fender from the USA for my UK K0 (I could not find a new 300 style one with the UK 4-hole lamp mount) and the chrome was in really good condition but had the usual slight surface rust underneath, which I wanted to remove. I was recommended to use a product called 'Deox-C' by a friend who runs a local engineering company. I dipped the fender in it for about 48 hours, as I was assured that the chrome would not be damaged in any way. I have to say that the stuff is magic  because it removed all of the rust but no base metal or Chrome. I think they also sell it in Gel form too. Don't know what it does to Zinc plating though but will try it out and report back. definitely brilliant for restoring chromed parts though.

Or does anyone know anything better?
