Perhaps Delkevic may start making them.

Not sure what is going on with Brituro who makes (made) them for DS, Yamiya, Classic Bike Shop etc. as they stopped trading recently but then started up again as another name.

Just read a test of aftermarket Led headlamps. Best was the Osram Nightbreaker Led Pro. Problem is, it won't fit in our headlights. Moreover such a LED bulb is not streetlegal unless in combination with a reflector made for LED headlamps.

LED bulbs from Classic Car LEDs are street legal

'The MOT rules have been clarified from 06.02.23 to allow the use of LED conversions that pass the beam pattern tests for headlights for Class 3, 4, 5 and 7 vehicles (car, private bus and light commercial vehicle) first used before 1 April 1986 and all class 1 and 2 motorcycles of any age'.

Please read the red text at the bottom of this link:-

Thanks, I think I’d get it professionally painted.

However, if too expensive, I may get the correct paint and do it myself, back to black.

And if so, what paint should I be using?

Just found this thread, with some good tips:

Flake sunrise is one of the 3 pack candy colours which mostly come in nasty type paints needing air fed masks

I have just bought the P43T LED for my Cibie. I have gone for 3000k Cool White because it has a more yellowish light to it. Having read up on a few things relating to cars etc pulling out on bikers it has been indicated (not proven) that a headlight with a yellowish tint is more noticeable to car drivers. Bright white tends to get washed out with all the cars nowadays that have their sidelights permanently on.

Dave,

in order to avoid further confusion please may I point out that the cool white LED you mention is actually 6000k, it's the warm white LED that's 3000k and as you note probably the more appropriate looking LED for our old nails.

CB500/550 / Paint disaster / new colour
« Last post by beardylondon on May 31, 2024, 07:16:17 PM »
My Dad is kindly helping me sort out my bike and he took the tank off, and thought it was completely drained, and turned it over and some fuel leaked out and has destroyed the paint.

I was warned when I bought it that the paint on the tank may be iffy, but I didn't expect fuel to damage it this badly.

Anyway, lesson learnt, excuse to repaint it properly.

The bike is a 1976 CB550 US import, so it should have originally been Candy Garnet Brown I believe, but someone painted it black like a CB500.

So I'm thinking of perhaps going for Flake Sunrise Orange, which I realise is an earlier colour, but I think it is nice and bright.

I just wondered if anyone has had a tank painted recently and had any advice, especially getting the striping correct etc.

cheers!

I think it's the rotor. Small and black. Has a small strip of brass on it that creats the contact with the neutral light. Turns each time the gear is shifted
