CB750 / Float bowl gasket. A cry for help!
« on: April 04, 2015, 05:15:51 PM »
Hi guys,
Just run up my 750 K0 after balance and Winter hibernation and no3 carb leaks extensively. Carbs were kept dry over Winter for obvious reasons. On inspection the rubber Gasket has been been compressed unevenly in one spot and will never seal again. Engine and carbs running sweetly.
I am (was?) hoping to ride out on a local jap run over the Sun/Mon and wondered if anyone has a spare gasket that fits the K series carbs and lives quite close to Ringwood, Bouremouth in order I can steal one? Are they are all common size? Even the F1/2's? Pain all this...😡 or is there a way of sealing this using the original rubber of which 10% of the groove is now compressed? Thanks.

  Nige.

I had huge issues with my K0 carbs regarding air leaks on all four. I could balance all 4 for 10 mins and then they go all pear shaped again. I then ordered 4 new K0 rubbers from Silver and I have never looked back, not withstanding the fact the earlier the 750 carb the less likely it will stay balanced. Even out of balance the bike performs fine, just isn't as sweet. Round about 500 - 1000 miles to stay in balance. I spoke to my chap who does this for me and remembers working on the K0/1/2 carbs back in '69 and on and keeping them in balance after sale new was a nightmare! My carbs are from Mr 750 Carb and completely overhauled hanging part exchanged them. Even then they needed balancing. The 4 way splitter is a pain too, a poor design and Honda quickly changed improved/changed the system. I am envious of the K1 set up, a much better system but, heh, that's first 'edition' bikes for you!
Forgive me if I am out of order and missed the point but I would buy new rubbers if I were you.😉
  Nige. Ps, and good luck.

Must say Steve.
I'm also a bit p..'d off they didn't offer you the chance to be there. I'm sure it was an oversight but nevertheless I'd be cheesed off too! I will mention it to Viv...😔

Many thanks Mick. God, this site is soooooo good and saves me soooooo much time with all your experiences and fab tips etc enabling me overcome this final unexpected hurdle! The painters have possibly lost 'em now...😞
Will await a phone call. But now have a contingency plan.. Firing her up for the first time since Oct rolling road work and balancing, tomorrow. (Although they'll be out balalance within a few hundred miles no doubt..!!) back on the road very soon.😊
    Thanks,

Hi guys,
I now need to replace my 2 tank trims at the base and wondered if any of you know of a cheaper source than £130 NOS in the States!!😳 preferably in the UK? Are my K0 trims only common to the '69 K0 guys? Silver and CMS don't supply these...
I've sent you a big thank by email regarding the double sided tape Mick! Bages are on!😉 thanks also to Ash for his amazing alternative! Brilliant!
   Thanks guys and girls.

Hi Billy,
I would look very closely at potential air leaks. These are very similar symptoms on my 750 and found the inlet tube/s weren't sealed properly. They were, in fact, the wrong ones!! Lower the demand on the engine the poorer it ran. Particularly around town. I sprayed a soapy liquid onto the tubes and area it which should be sealed and the engine picked up and ran sweetly for a second or two on no's 1/2. Those tubes were incorrect and one was split.
I hope this may be a more simple solution and fingers crossed for you.

Incidentally,
Does anyone know of a suitable technique on how to gently (!!!) bend these badges at the forward end to fit more snug against the tank. The rest of the badge runs well along the tank but the forward end sits proud. The gap is around 3 mill and 2 mill respectively. I've noticed this is quite common on a lot of tanks. Cheers.

I've never heard of a problem in the Forest. Avoid Central Southampton of Course!! I can't recommend a place to stay but in my experience B n B's try to be very accommodating regarding security. Perhaps a chain/cable as a deterrent? The camp sites have log cabins, such as Sandy Balls. 2 can share easily. I would offer my garage but you couldn't squeeze a mouse into it!
Hope you guys can sort it!

Original badges and in excellent condition.. Replacing these with original would be expensive - particularly the side badges.
Thanks Mick and all. Will PM you this week when decision has been made. 😊

CB750 / Tank badges

Hi guys.
Tried to find a similar thread on this and forgive me for repeating a topic possibly. I've just taken delivery of my 750 K0 tank from Dream machines, now in it's final stage of restoration and I have to find a way of attaching the tank badges on the tank as the pins, as usual, have broken. What have you guys done to resolve the problem? I may well go down the line of gluing them on but NOT with a super glue type!! I may well have to get these badges off again and don't want to destroy the paint in the process! This also applies to the side panel badges which still have the original  I am considering using Silicon (black), then to gently pick away the excess around the edges?
What are your experiences or thoughts? Cheers.
