CB350/400 / Exhaust split collars
« on: June 14, 2014, 08:06:05 PM »
Hi guys.

I am about to get my first 400 next week. Now it needs a new exhaust system as the collector box is shot and it has an odd silencer and poor chrome on the down pipes. So I was intending to put a full replacement in from the Silver guys. Now my question is should the split collars be replaced as well or are they subject to condition? I will post pictures once I get the bike but it's a very low mileage model from Holland so need to get an MOT before I can register it. Thanks.

Thanks Lobo, that's a great link. I have printed one of the pages to take to a viewing as a check list.

Thanks for the top tips. It's great to have something to focus on when I go to view some bikes. Now back to eBay.

CB350/400 / What to look out for when buying

OK wise sage and all knowing ones what would be your advice when looking for a 400 four. I have been reading the forum and getting some idea, I know a chrome exhaust is expensive and feel happy to be able to judge a good and a bad one. However I would like to buy a runner for the summer with the intention then to restore as required over the coming years. So advice in what to look out for, what is easy to fix  and what could be seriously expensive. I am sure there are as many opinions as there are bikes but any advice would be appreciated.

As far as reading material goes I have a Haynes on order. Is there any other books or manuals worth getting?

Thanks.
Greg

Hi there another new face to the fold. I started life on a Honda MT50 before progressing to a Suzuki GP100. Then I got myself a Suzuki GS550 which I spent a year on touring around Australia, sheer bliss. Then back to reality in the UK and used a Kawazaki KE175, great fun before falling into the clutches of four wheels. So it is now time to get back on the road and having admired the 400-4 it is time to find a runner and make friends with some spanners and socket sets. I look forward to your replies to my daft questions and hope to meet some of you on the road soon. Also if anyone knows of a bike going in the Warwickshire area I would love to hear from you, in the mean time I have an eye on eBay etc.

Cheers
Greg
