CB750 / Re: Idiot console bulb holder rubbers

It would be good if Peter Horton could make up sets. If not, I was quite happy with the Z1 USA one. (I think it was in a batch of items I brought back on a trip a few years ago) I could have slid the slightly short sleeve a bit nearer the bulb end and added tape to the connector end but it still looks pretty good.

Noted thanks Steve. Bikesure is the lowest so far (separate policy) on the modern bike. I think a practical solution might be to insure the modern bike for the summer, and the 500/4 all year so it gets more use, minimising ‘laid up time’ to keep the carbs clear etc.

Many thanks Simon 👍, I tried them but the modern bike is the problem. I’ve kept the answered list of questions they sent me on file for future quotes, and sent it to Peter James to see what they can do 🤞

Pic 2! It’s also a question of keeping up the pace with the others on modern bikes, trying PJ now, good tip!

You’re quite right Ian! My wife is not keen on that, due to reliability, but I’ve got a few months to prove it is!! I did back in the day!!

Many thanks both, same thought about the modern one. I was looking to have it for a short tour in France with pals on modern bikes, but may look to hire or borrow!

Hmm a bit disappointed, just been quoted by another insurer, for my CB500/4 and a NC750S I’m thinking of buying.
Over £450 with low mileages etc.
Think I’ll stick with my current insurer, £85 for the 500/4 only.
☹️

Happy memory of being on my C70 in about 1975 and going on to reserve in the outside lane of the A3, shouldn’t have been there really!

Lobo is the system servo assisted just out of interest?

When starting work on mine the front brake was useless, and after realising fluid had been leaking onto the disc, I replaced seals etc, which didn’t work. I then realised there was slight corrosion in the channel the piston seal sits in, and in the master cylinder bore. Barely noticeable, but I’m guessing minute traces of Dot 4 in those interfaces with the outside air attract water and then slight corrosion takes place over many years. As I couldn’t machine these I bought replacements and all now working very well, with the SBS501HF pads. They squeaked a bit, but I’ve slightly chamfered the leading edges, but also cleaned the disc with Wonder Wheels cleaner which may have helped, and if it has will use it periodically.
I just bought 250ml of ECB Dot 5 which I will not use, as I don’t want to do the full clean/rebuild (if the above is correct re the ‘interfaces’) which would need all old fluid cleaning off seals etc. (I got it for a good price £15.75 inc postage if anyone wants it for that!)

CB500/550 / Re: Fuel pipe question F1
« on: January 05, 2023, 11:04:11 AM »
I have the standard 500/4 setup. I think I had starvation because the pipe to 3&4 had a slight upward loop at the mid point, plus my tank breather was a bit gummed up after over-filling, which I’ve given a few squirts of carb cleaner and put a rubber hose on the small hole in the cap to blow through.
If those are avoided, hopefully Mick’s findings will be repeated.
