CB350/400 / More bits and bobs done
« on: February 19, 2022, 08:26:39 PM »
Hi all

At last finished my front fork upgrade

Fitted some linear Race Tec spring with modified damper rods (lower holes opened up to 6mm and extra holes added) that now are fitted with Race Tec gold valve emulators

Lastly replaced the fork top caps with some adjustable preload units

Well please with the result and looking forward to doing some final fine tuning of both the suspension set up front and back once spring is here

Lastly due to the above changes I am left over with two almost brand new fork caps

As these are now surplus to requirements and will just collect dust. If anybody is looking for a pair to replace the original ones looking to move on for £18 posted

Catch up soon and enjoy the rest of the windy weekend

Best wishes always Al

CB350/400 / Rear disc conversion
« on: February 05, 2022, 03:28:07 PM »
Hi Oddjob

Not yet as meant to still resting my back with no heavy lifting yet but spinning the wheel by hand system works as planned and linkage connecting for rear sets has been designed so I can adjust the “lever ratio” if I need to adjust  the feel once I am out and about

Best wishes Al

CB350/400 / Rear disc conversion
« on: February 05, 2022, 02:54:59 PM »
Hi all

Hope you are all well

Well that’s the rear disc conversion finally finished now I am back on my feet.

This was the disc locker unit that needed a bit of fettling so it fitted snugly in the original rear hub.

Also back end now fitted with that original but now repainted Dresda swing arm, and a nice pair of YSS piggy back shocks from Brooks Suspension.

Really pleased on the final result and bike certainly looking very non standard, but will leave the final judgment to yourself

Lastly going to leave the rear disc plain for now, but may drill when the front end forks are is stripped and modified to fit the Race Tec emulator and spring kit that has finally arrived from the states

Catch up soon and have a good weekend Al

CB500/550 / Electronic ignition

Just a question but original combustion chamber design ignition curve would have been based on leaded four star fuel. So would modern fuels affect combustion, speed heat of combustion etc as on another forum it was mentioned that adding ethanol produces a smaller bang and affects detonation (reduces it)

Or maybe I am talking rubbish and happy to be corrected

Best regards Al

You HUGE tart Al ;D

That looks the shizzle mate, and a thumbs up from the Long Haired General too which generically means the chicks at the bus stop are gonna think you're way cool when you're wheelying by showing off.

Top Blingin (no G) ;D 8) 8)
Thanks buddy

Realised when in put that spare CB400F engine on the bench, (most likely what buggered my back) and compared the weight of that inline four brick to my feather weight wizzy RD350LC motor,  that wheelies on a CB400F are almost impossible, and the extra weight of a fork brace ain’t going to help either

Hopefully my YSS rear units are due next week so will be in touch to send on the original units to you

Look after yourself

Best wishes Al

   Hi Ash,

I had my original BB black box develope a fault after about 20yrs ,

it failed to switch on occasionall,,you could just hear a "click" when it switched on,.

  but sometimes it didn't.

know idea if there is a relay inside,

I now have the red box, with  BB coils and works perfectly.

Hi John

Yes I have a full BB system and there must be a switch or relay as instructions say that after 15sec of engine stop if the ignition is left on the system automatically switches itself off I guess via this relay

Best regards Al

Or just a points replacement system for £110. Keeping existing coils and advancer, and let's be honest those parts never break.

I would agree on the advance system but not so much on coils as originals and their HT leads are almost 50 years old now

Out of curiosity if wanted as a rebuild to replace all the original ignition parts with like for like / original Honda parts, did a quick add up on the David silver site and to replace all with genuine parts (2 set of points 2 condensers and a new pair of coils) is £267 which is more than a complete Boyer kit

So personally for me going full EI makes perfect sense

Best wishes Al

If you have covered the top with tape no air can get in! Use half a clothes peg to pushthe filter forward and leave the top open totest
Solid lid or duct tape is ok as there snorkel at the back of the filter housing
