Misc / Open / SOHC World Tour
« on: December 14, 2011, 09:40:45 PM »
Those of you that frequent the .net site will be familiar with this.

The tour started in March 2011 and Godzilla has travelled extensively. (In NZ now I believe)

We need some support for the European leg.

Anyone interested?

Announcements / Admin Holidays!
« on: August 12, 2011, 09:29:08 AM »
I'm off to deepest Dartmoor for a week with no internet, no PC and no mobile phone!

If there's any spam, please report it in the normal way and I'll deal with it on my return.

Likewise, any delayed registrations (sometimes they get caught up in the spammer filters) I will deal with then.

Announcements / SMF 2.0: What do you think?
« on: June 18, 2011, 10:04:13 AM »
Hi everyone.

Now that SMF 2.0 has moved from the Release Candidate into full release, I was thinking of upgrading the forum.

Glenn Stauffer did this on http://forums.sohc4.net a few months ago (he was using RC5) so take a look over there and let me know what you think.

My main reason for wanting to change is that the new software has far better security and spam resistance. At the moment I get about 30-40 spam registrations per day. It only needs one to get through to swamp the boards...

Also, this version of SMF is now only updated with bug fixes as the focus has moved on.

What do you think?

Misc / Open / AA to Fill Potholes
« on: April 01, 2011, 09:27:38 AM »
AA Pothole Patrols to the rescue
- AA launches AA Pothole Assist

A new initiative to counter the 2.2 million pothole plague which has spread across the UK as a result of three cold winters and cutbacks in road maintenance is launched by the AA today (1).

AA Pothole Assist is a new service following in the footsteps of AA Fuel Assist and AA Battery Assist. As part of AA Pothole Assist, AA patrols will be tasked with filling in any potholes they come across when travelling between breakdown jobs.

The AA is entering into the road maintenance market as a direct response to concerns raised by members:
-       The recent AA StreetWatch survey conducted by 2,000 AA members identified potholes as the most serious concern.
-       An AA Populus poll of 20,000 members showed that the majority believe that road conditions have deteriorated over the last decade.
-       AA Insurance has experienced a four-fold increase in claims

CB500/550 / eBay Bargain!

NOT

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/HONDA-500-4-/200576626757?pt=UK_Motorcycles&hash=item2eb34c7045

"4 into 1 motad exhaust , although not the original 4 into 4 , is better quality and lighter ! (original are still available" - I'm sorry, did someone say that a Motad is better than the originals?   :o

"Some very minor detailing still to be completed " - like the wrong paint on the tank and the wrong seat...

I don't normally comment on eBay auctions on here but this one just had my anorak in tangles...

CB500/550 / Make your own CB500 Clutch Pushrod / Push Rod
« on: February 23, 2011, 05:33:07 PM »
From .net:

As of this writing, CB500 clutch push rods are pretty much impossible to find anywhere. They come up on Ebay every now and then but sell for $50+.  That's just stupid for something that may well break again...

So, between Shifter19 and Number13 (seeing a theme here?):

Measurements for a Honda OEM pushrod are:

10 1/8 inches or 257 mm long
3/8 inch in diameter or 9.5 mm

You can easily fashion a push rod from
3/8" steel rod found at any hardware store.
The shifter side end should be ground flat and square,
and the brake side end should be neatly rounded in a semi-sphere
to mate with the clutch basket. If you err, err on the side of a bit too
long since this will allow you to keep the lifter mechanism low and avoid cracking.
May also be a good idea to quench harden the ends.

Misc / Open / DSS Survey
« on: February 18, 2011, 08:54:21 AM »
I assume that I'm not the only one to get an email from DSS today, asking me to enter a competition.

A good cheap way to validate their email lists...

My issue is with the list of options for where you heard of them:
  • Internet
  • Press
  • Friend
  • Dealer
  • Honda UK

There's not box for "SOHC4 Forum"   :'(

I'm a member of www.cbfownersclub.co.uk which is a new club for UK owners of DOHC 750/900 Hondas.

They have a rather nice tax disk holder:

Anyone on here fancy making an SOHC one?
