Title: Why do we do it?
Post by: Green1 on November 22, 2020, 08:48:15 PM
I thought I would treat my 23 year old Aprilia Pegaso to a new monoshock as the old one was totally shot.
That soon turned into refurbing the hole rear end ::) and before I knew it I'v spent £500+ on a £900 bike.
If it was a car I would have put it out of its missary years ago.

yeah......these things happen :)

Shock knackered..so replace. Then you find out hte pivots and bearings should have been greased about 5 years ago, and are all worn or corroded...so...well, you bought a £300 shock...so well...you can;t fit it with worn bushings and bearings/pivots. So you do that...after you clean and repaint the swingarm...and...well...those wheel bearings have some play, and while the wheel is out...

Yup.

Been there. Done it. I also have no idea why

Oh yes.............I bought a 'restored' Triumph Spitfire a few years ago. The radio/cassette player was cheap and nasty so I bought a new one. The exisitng wiring to the old one was rough, scotchblocks everywhere so I went to re-wire just this part of it. Weeks later and I'd rewired the whole dasboard and everything in the bulkhead. The dashboard trim looked rough against the new radio so I replaced that and soon the lower dash panels, kickpanels, door pads, carpet, rear panels, seatbelts etc, etc. I sold the car not long after swearing never to buy another one!

Work has stopped a bit suddenly so before I get paranoid about the lack of money coming in I thought I would spend some much needed time and money getting the bikes tidy again.
Next will be the 550's strange misfire issue.
