These "kits" didn't exist 30 years ago and I don't suppose anyone has made model specific kits foir these bikes. Hence the DIY approach.

In theory you can restrict anything by merely restricting the amount of air that flows through the inlet.

As the 550 only made 50bhp when it was new, restricting to 33 should be fairly easy.

Easy that is if you have access to metal fabricators. You'd need restrictor plates for the carb inlets.

Then you'd need a "certificate" from a dyno to prove the output.

Then you'd need to convince your insurance company that it is kosher.

Is it 33 at the rear wheel? It's probably not far off that now!

Are you sure? Can't have been finger trouble with the compression tester can it?

50 psi is on the lower side of bad.

Try again. Kill switch off, throttle wide open.

If low, pour a little oil into the plug hole and try again. A different (higher) reading indicates broken or stuck rings.

Unless there is something irreplacable about the bike (sentimental value or concourse restoration for example), just use what you paid for it.

The idea of insurance being to enable you to get back to where you were before the "incident"

Can you try it without the fuel filter in the system?

The engine uses a lot more fuel under load - reving in neutral will not necessarily show up the problem (which sounds like fuel starvation to me)

I had a 750 with that problem. Cleaning the (two) fuel filters didn't help so I removed them completely which fixed the problem.

Hi Andy. It's been a while.

Can you post pics of your bikes?

Here's the Seeley at North Weald in 2006 (September I think).



Eamon did eventually buy a Seeley (from Stafford) but had to sell it recently due to straitened financial circumstances (too many bikes, no job)
