SOHC Singles & Twins / New Money Pit
« on: November 23, 2022, 09:50:06 PM »
Just bought a new money pit off eBay (DK). My head said 'don't' and heart said 'do'. Heart won!
My first road bike was a cb250k3 and in recent years fancied a K0.
Ash is going to be asked a lot of questions over the coming months!

CB750 / Fuel Mixture Control in Relation to Throttle Position Diagram
« on: September 06, 2022, 05:15:21 PM »
Can anyone point me in the direction of the diagram  that shows the 'Fuel Mixture Control in Relation to Throttle Position' - I've seen it in a thread but can't for the life of me find it now! It's the one that shows the overlapping function of the carb jets, cut out, needle in one portrait orientated diagram.
Need it to help with the ongoing fine tuning of my CR750 Replica

Recommended Sources for Parts and Services / Lynbrook Insurance Renewal
« on: August 10, 2022, 10:48:46 PM »
My renewal for my 4 bikes that are on the road has dropped through the letterbox from Lynbrook Insurance - and its gone down from £360 to £276. Thats £3000 agreed value for ZZR1100, £8000 for 750K2, £7000 for500K2 and £10k for the CR750 Rep - 3000 miles each bike inc UK breakdown cover and legal insurance
Quite pleased with that!

CB750 / CR750 Race Alternator with starter motor
« on: July 17, 2022, 07:03:49 PM »
Just thought I’d post the latest modification to my CR750 Replica. When I originally built the bike, I opted for the Electrex World race alternator and Good Bits alternator cover to make it a more realistic replica and allow the fairing to be as narrow as possible without cutting a hole for the original alternator cover. However, the original race alternator mounts the stator on a plate where the starter spragg clutch and starter gear goes – so the bike was built minus the starter and was kickstart only.

This was a real pain and so on contacting Andy at Good Bits, he advised he was developing a conversion that allowed the starter gear to be retained with the race alternator by moving the stator into the race alternator cover. 2 years later he developed an alternator cover and spragg clutch adaptor. Not cheap at £230 for the cover and £90 for the spragg clutch adaptor (plus about £600 for the original race alternator). It’s all done now and works a treat.

See pictures for modded parts – hope its of interest

CB750 / Tightening Alternator Rotor Bolt
« on: June 04, 2022, 03:07:32 PM »
Whats the recommended method for tightening the alternator stator bolt? I'm fitting the CR750 replica with the modified cover that allows the use of the starter motor (been waiting months for the modified cover/spragg clutch adaptor).
I usually put the bike in gear and tighten the bolt with the back brake on but can't get a 'crisp' final tighten due to the 'spring' in the chain.
How do you get a confident tightening? Whats the correct torque setting and should I put threadlock on the thread?
Thanks

CB750 / Charging System Specification
« on: February 16, 2022, 02:37:02 PM »
I'm currently converting back to electric staeter on the CR750 Replica.
For authenticity (as near as you can expect for a road going replica) I used a race alternator that was narrower than standard in conjunction with a narrower cover. This allowed me to use a nearer to original fairing without cutting a hole in the fairing for the alternator. Down side was that the kit junked the starter ring/clutch (hence no starter motor)
the Electrex World race alternator kit included a voltage regulator/rectifier that I have mounted under the seat with the battery and all other electrics (the inclusion of the replica central alloy oil tank creates space issues). I want to retain this reg/rec (if possible) as I've squeezed it into position and don't want to re-position/make new brackets.
BEAR WITH ME, I'M GETTING THERE!
The Electrex race alternator I'm told (by Andy at 'GoodBits' who sold me the system), that the alternator only kicks in to charge at 3000 rpm. Not an issue while racing.
Question for the electricery experts, is it the reg/rec that controls when the alternator starts charging or the race alternator.
I need to know this so that when I put the original alternator back on, the system charges as per the original Honda spec - as I can't/don't want to always ride the bike constantly above 3000 revs. It hasn't mattered to date as the battery doesn't get taxed as much without the electric starter motor
Pending the answer, I will be able to retain the rec/reg that on the bike or change it to one thats made for standard 750.
Here's the Electrex race alternator spec

Thanks in advance
PS, I have found a high cranking amp battery that will fit in the current custom battery box under the seat
