Just read this from start to finish, and what an epic yarn it is, fantastic perseverance and skill in getting this far, hope it works out right.

CB750 / Re: What are these plugs telling me?… and other questions!
« on: August 30, 2023, 09:52:53 AM »
Everytime I change the plugs on mine I am extra carefully of the two inner plugs, I tend to use the Ted method with some rubber tubing but an old straight plug cap sounds really good as well. Sods law also says that it will be one of those that soots up, though Denso plugs solved that one for me ages ago thanks to Hondaman over on the US site.

I used to use one in the olden days on my 750 as it had a clear pocket which I used for maps, no sat nav in those days.

Yes my original rear mudguard was a metal one with two flutes in it to catch water and corrode, so it was first of all modified with drains and then replace with an F2 plastic one. It's in a drawer in the garage, I keep meaning to strip and paint it.

I took mine off when I first bought the bike in 1976 as it ground too easily, it's still in the loft, I will have to put a big padlock on the loft hatch now.

CB750 / Re: CB750 K3 - lack of power
« on: August 21, 2023, 09:52:22 AM »
When I rebuilt my 750F1 I followed my wife in the car through Liverpool and was gobsmacked at the speeds she was doing through the camera infested areas, so I did some testing using the car as a pace maker, at 30, 40, 50 and 60 mph.
The result was the speedo on the Honda was 7 mph fast at all speeds, no wonder I was having problems with 30 mph speed limits, so since then I just deduct 7 mph from whatever it tells me.

« on: August 18, 2023, 07:39:09 PM »
I used to go to the TT and Manx every year from 1970 to 1978, and it was pretty simple and cheap, in the early years it was just throw the tent and sleeping bag on the back of the bike and off we went, usually camping at Bray Hill.
If the weather was iffy or we got fed up it was easy to swap to a B&B in Douglas, then later the camping was given up and it was B&B's all the way, none of it was too expensive or hard to organise.
The last time we went was 1978, our honeymoon and we were on the 750F1, it was changing then, starting to get very commercialisedwith lots of "biker" entertainment, instead of making our own fun.
When I read about it now I am horrified at the expense and need to book so early.

CB350/400 / Re: Obtaining Bolts/fittings?
« on: August 11, 2023, 09:01:51 AM »
Watch out for non standard heads on the bolts as well, when I rebuilt my 750F1 I bought most of my bolts from Custom Fasteners, however they do not seem to have the same range of products now.
I copied this from their website.

IMPORTANT - PLEASE READ BEFORE ORDERING METRIC BOLTS.
Metric bolts in M4, M5, M6, M7 and M8 diameters are suitable for both European and Japanese motorcycles and cars.

However, M10 in the standard 1.50 pitch are only suitable as replacements on European machines. They will not fit Japanese vehicles which use their own specialised fine thread. Please see the next section in the catalogue for our specially produced range of M10 and M12 fine thread bolts for Japanese vehicles.

M10(1.25 pitch) and M12(1.25 pitch) FINE THREAD METRIC BOLTS
For use on Japanese motorcycles and cars. M10(1.25) bolts have a 17mm spanner size, M12(1.25) bolts have a l9mm spanner size. The Japanese often
use a smaller size head on their bolts, so please check there is sufficient clearance for the standard size head we supply, before ordering.

 NOTES ON METRIC BOLTS
M4 fits spanner size 7mm. M4 thread pitch is 0.70mm.
M5 fits spanner size 8mm. M5 thread pitch is 0.80mm.
M6 fits spanner size 10mm. M6 thread pitch is 1.00mm.
M7 fits spanner size 11mm. M7 thread pitch is 1.00mm.
M8 fits spanner size 13mm. (Japanese M8 bolts use 12mm spanner size). M8 thread pitch is 1.25mm.
M10 fits spanner size 17mm. M10 thread pitch is 1.50mm.

Looking at the bike it is F1, frame running gear brakes etc, I'll leave the engine number to the experts.

Just in the motorhome at a campsite at the end of the runway at RAF Valley Anglesey - Hawks landing over our head - love it!

Must be the same one that I went on holiday to when I was knee high to a grasshopper, I could not understand how the aircraft flew without propellers, it was very confusing.

I always use Brillo pads for that sort of work as they are not too harsh.

Sounds familier I sold my newish 750K2 in 1972 to put a deposit down on a house and bought a CD175 as my day to day transport.

I heard about Evaporust on here (Ted) and tried it out, and it worked a treat most impressive.
