CB500/550 / Re: Paint work in West Sussex needed!
« on: October 07, 2015, 08:14:22 AM »
If you want a price estimate simply send me an email (tanklackieren@hotmail.de) and add a couple of pictures if that is possible.

Remember that most of these tanks have had a long life and it is rare to see a tank in such a good condition like Noelia's.

The Honda colours on my website are the colours I have painted sofar. It is not complete by far.
I'm just collecting colours like someone else would collect ... I don't know... stamps?

Some colours you can buy as a kit on ebay or so but there are also colours no one knows anymore how they are made.
There is a base colour and over it a candy 'see through' paint which gives the final colour. A bit like spraying a yellow metallic base and over it blue candy.
It should end up green as we all learned in school. However it doesn't always work like that. The paint in the 70's was different than todays paint.
It coloured more deeply but faded really quick. To try to reproduce a 70's colour with no real clue of what they actualy used is quite a chalenge.
For instance I did a Kawasaki super candy green last month and had a realy nice NOS sidepanel to match. However Kawasaki used a silver metallic base with on top of it
nothing more than green candy. I could not reproduce it using the same protocol. In stead I had to go with a blue metallic base and over it green candy.
And I had to keep in mind that the NOS was already faded a bit of course:

Honda colours that cannot be bought in a paintkit are for instance Honda cb 550 candy kent brown or Honda cb 350 candy panther gold.

Starlight gold I have never seen upclose. I know it exists but I need a good sample to reproduce it. Same for instance with honda cb350 four in black.
I thought it was exell black but it is actualy glory blue black. So there are still many colours to be discovered.

That is why I would like to give this advise: Don't clean or sandblast your tank before the colour you want reproduced is registered. That is when it's a special colour.
For instance a colour which you cannot find on my website.

For me it would be a nice idea to have a library of colours so when someone is restaurating it is easy to find the desired original like colour.
And therefore you are always welcome : www.tanklackieren.de / Honda colours

So, as maybe some of you have noticed, after Noelia contacted me I've joined this forum. I'm not anywher near Sussex however mail is helping out a lot.
I live realy in the middle of nowhere in germany but I'm actualy from Amsterdam.

Anyway, through internet it is now possible for me to work wherever I live so I have customers from Sweden to Malta.

Normaly a paintjob takes about 1,5 month. That is also since I have the tanks chemicaly cleaned. (takes about 2 weeks).
The advantages of chemicaly cleaning are many. No more rust. Inside is completely new as well so that saves on cleaning and extra innercoating.
And off course you know what the basis of your tank is.

I've asked Noelia if she is ok with me posting some pictures of her tank (she said yes) so here they are:

Project Board / Re: Holes in the fuel tank

Yes Bryanj, you're right. Both lines are feeds, in on position as well in reserve position. Sorry about that. That also makes more sense why the lines are interchangable I guess..

Eh.. I don't get it....

But first the connection of the hoses... it doesn't matter. Left right or the other way around. All the lines are connected in the carburetor.
Why 2 lines? 1 is for reserve and one for normal driving. So you see: left or right reserve doesn't matter.

The tank.... Clean it out with vinegar and get a sealant. The clear one not that red 2 component stuff. Throw it in... turn the tank. Let the leftover out and do it again next day.
The tank will have a plasic seal on the inside. Like a tank of plastic in your steal tank.

Please only use this if your tank has a hole, not simply because it is rusty.
And make sure the tank is completely dry on the inside before you start coating.

CB350/400 / Re: Decals

The problem with decals, or stickers is that they have an expire date.

Next time try to use stickers not older than 6 months.
After that it will get more and more difficult to get them on.

Just to let you all know:

If you would be dealing with a Dutch or German person; the moment both parties agree the bike is sold by law. Even without a signed paper or downpayment.
I know; it might be difficult to prove that.

But if you have something signed, well the seller cannot simply reverse the sale.

So the first is from a 500 k0 or k1. It will also fit the early Honda cb 750 and 350 although the outlet is different - the base is the same.
The second is From the 500 k2. If I'm correct it will also fit the 550 k1 and the late cb 750 till k6. It will also fit the 750f2 but not the f1. And the 400.
The third is from a 550 k2. It will also fit the 750 k (after k6) although nr 4 is correct for the cbc750 k. It wil also fit the cb 750 f1.

Questions?

I just checked and here is what I've found:

A 500 tank (k0 or k2 doesn't matter) will fit on a cb550 frame with no problems.
However, the seat will have to be adjusted. Or else there will be a gap between the 550 seat and the 500 tank.
If you have a 500 seat it will most likely fit the 550 frame as well and solve the gap problem.

The fuelcocks are a different problem. There are at least 3 different fuelcocks used on both the 500 as with the 550 tank.
(2 different ones on the 500 and two different ones on the 550)
If you use a 500 fuelcock you simply need a T piece to lead the two hoses into one. Or block up one of the hoses with a screw in the rubberhose.

Ok, last very important thing: the fuelcock attachments differ a lot. They might look the same but there are lots of differences. I will try to put up some pictures...

Ah, Noelia, too bad I just read this post now. Ik have buckets full of these fuelcocks. If I would have known earlier I would simply have put it in the package with the tank.
Well... if you still need one you can have it.
