Title: Where can I find these headlight brackets?
Post by: alexdecker on August 05, 2022, 12:53:31 PM
These are nice. Not original I assume though. Does anyone know where they are from?

Also, is the front signal lights the same as the back ones? Mine does not look so similar at all!

I fitted these to Julie's 550 mongrel some years ago. Comes with a universal kit with is a bit of a pig to fit but, once on are fine >>> https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/164200032023?hash=item263b15a717:g:U0EAAOSwBgtZvJvG

That’s a really nice bike there Alex, particularly like the black and cream/white paint job and the gold rims. Very tasteful conversion IMO.

Wow Alex is that your bike it looks well tidy?

Has that had a turbo fitted?

I don't think that's Alex bike as he still hasn't sorted the indicators out yet to my knowledge. Plus it's a K3 and Alex has an F2.

Thanks! These look like they could do the job. I just saw a lot of brackets with holes in them and other silly looks, and those on the bike in the picture came a little nearer to a stock look without being it.

I’ve also considered a Bates style headlight, but not sure how to fit it, and would rather not drill into the yoke or anything like that. Does anyone know what kind of assembly those headlight take?

Uh no, not my bike. This is one from the US forum I think, just liked the brackets because they had an OEM look, and wanted to see if I could source them.

Here is a picture of my bike. Looks normal enough. On closer inspection though, the chrome is pretty beat up, there is holes in the fender etc. But I wanted it to run good before I make it look good. So went through the engine first. Now I am starting to try and do the cosmetic work. I decided not to do a restoration, but more like a resto mod, as it is hard sourcing all the original parts. But I like the OEM look, so trying not to stray too far from that. Need fenders, signal lights and front and back lights, and a new paint job, and then we are looking pretty good I think. So working on it over the winter (like everybody else I assume).  Right now I just wanna ride it a bit and see how the engine runs after I went through it 😊

Just use your honda headlight. If you scroll down this link, you will find pictures of my black 550 with those headlight brackets.  http://www.sohc.co.uk/index.php/topic,24825.75.html

Nice, thanks Julie! I might just end up doing that. Those brackets look exactly like I want them.

Are you just using stock signals? The chrome on mine are rusted and pitted, so looking for a nice replacement.

Also - no rear fender? Only riding in dry weather, or have you worked out a less visible solution?

You're missing the speedo cable bung. Goes in the hole in the front mudguard and the speedo cable passes through it. OE one is a sort of dirty white/grey colour.

Ah! Are these usable without any other parts in both front and back?

On the front only. The back stems are totally different  ;)

Ah! I found a guy who is selling these spare light. I assume the right one is for the back with the bolt, and the left one would probably fit over the stem you sent a link to then? Am I supposed to use some sort of rubber grommet for attachment, or can I attach them directly to the front (headlight bucket) or back (passenger grab bar)?

They are not for your bike and are a totally different indicator altogether  ;)

Damn, so not useful at all? I have sorta given up the quest for original rear signal light brackets and rubbers, and just trying to find the best alternative that would stay within the OEM look, but not really sure how to go about it. Thought maybe those would have done the trick  :(

just had a thought about this, if you want an original look at the rear, you could use the uk style 500 four indicator brackets that fit on the rear frame and use the bolt that holds the mudguard on. They dont use a grabrail at all, but the usa 500 did, and looks very similar to the later bikes except the indicators mount on the grabrail but importantly are a different size to later f2 etc, and are much more common and cheaper.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/223719561522?hash=item3416b99932:g:TFUAAOSwwLJiAt6U these would fit the earlier 500/550 but not 550f1/f2.

Trouble with those Mick is you need a 500 grabrail as well as the opening the the 550 grabrail he has is bigger so the rubber mounts would just fall through and it's the mounts that give the spacing needed to fit those stems.

Yes Ken, i was thinking for him to get the earlier grabrail, depends how much the budget is.

I may have not only an earlier grab rail but the mounts for it and the stems. Trouble is he's in Europe so postage and such. I also have some front stems that fit the headlights somewhere.
