Hell!! I was pretty distressed when I saw that thing. At least its a step in the right direction, and its probably a good donor engine. Strangest thing is, bike the size of a small planet and he couldn't find room for an airbox.

CB350/400 / Re: Holes in the frame??? anyone else suffered this
« on: December 12, 2014, 07:42:37 AM »
Just rebuilt my F2. When I stripped it I got a fair amount of water out of the frame, lucky that I wasn't reusing the frame as the tube holding the centre stand had rotted nearly through. During the rebuild I kept thinking "I don't think I would rush to take this bike out in the rain" as loads of areas are open to ingress of water (especially the electrics). Think I will be carefull cleaning it as well. At least it takes 35 to 40 years to rot though. At 55 I will probably have rotted through as well by then.

Thanks guys that's cleared it up. The wiring on the F2 looks like its the same but the layout is slightly different. See photo. Cheers all.

Hi. Just got a solid state Rectifier/Regulator for the old F2. Of course its arrived without any wiring diagram or instructions. Have posted a photo, can anybody tell me where the black and white wires connect to. They are both male spade fittings. Also, I assume it bolts on in place of the existing regulator. Thank you very much.

CB750 / Re: Fitting Motad exhaust
« on: November 24, 2014, 03:59:23 PM »
Exhaust is finally correctly fitted. Motad (bless em) made me some new head rings 5mm shorter and now they fit a treat. On standard Honda studs the nuts tighten up with 2 threads showing through. Perfect. Not got a clue what was happening with the standard head rings. The header to silencer fit was due to "out of round" distortion from welding. I turned a mandrel on the lathe and tapped it in to get them round again, they now fit well. The rear silencer bracket was still miles out. I had to re-bend the bottom of it with a 45 degree bend to get it to meet the centre stand. Got it all perfect now. 10 out of 10 to Motad for after sales service. Shame they couldn't get it right first time. OH well!!

Hi Bitza. I guess the difference is that yours fitted the cylinder head, whereas mine doesn't. That's why they have provided shorter head rings at 23mm rather than the standard 28mm. Still got the bracket that the stand completely misses to sort out, but just going to the garage now to see if the header pipes will fit with the new head rings. Will report back later. Cheers.

Hi all. Just a quick update. Been talking to Motad via email and they have been brilliant. Unfortunately neither Motad nor myself are 100% sure what the problem is so we are looking for a workaround solution at the moment. So far they have made me a set of bespoke head rings that arrived today (shorter than standard), should be able to fit the pipes tomorrow. I should then be able to accurately measure for a modified silencer bracket. Never had after sales service as good as this from anywhere. Thanks Motad I really appreciate your help. Cheers.

Have checked all the labeling and numbers on the packaging, and they all check out as correct. The bends on the header pipes appear to be correct, so maybe this is for a K or and F1 or something and as you say its been mislabeled. Have emailed Motad with the same pictures as on here, so will wait and see what happens. Feeling a little less irate about it now. Sorry to have unburdened on you all. Cheers all.

Well what can I say!! Started fitting the Motad exhaust without the required instructions that were not in the box. Have posted some photos to try to convey just how awful the quality of this thing is. Clearly Motad have never fitted this to a real bike or they would know that it just does not fit. Good old British engineering.

The first issue is the fit of some of the pipes to the collector box. The picture demonstrates the I can push a matchstick down the joint. This is going to blow exhaust gases for fun.

Next we have the fitting collars that are too long. As you can see from the picture, pushed up tight there is no stud threads showing to get the nut on. The only option is to hacksaw 10mm or so off the end of the collar. But why the hell should I, this is supposed to be made to fit a CB750F2.

Last but not least, the bottom of the silencer mounting bracket is supposed to be a main stand stop. The picture shows that the stand does not even touch the bracket, it goes straight past it and fouls the drive chain. To repair this I will need to fabricate a whole new bracket. But again, why the hell should I.

I know Motad are following this forum, I hope they can come up with a few sensible suggestions as to why this does not fit without a fair degree of re-engineering by me. Just wondering, has anybody else had problems like this with Motad? Think I may just put it back in the box and send the whole pile of scrap back to them, then order a system from America that will probably fit straight off.

Happy days!!

Cheers Trig. Push fit it is then. Was kinda hoping that would be the case as it will be on and off a bit as the mounting bracket is miles out. The main stand bump stop completely misses the bracket and ends up fouling the drive chain. Looks like I may be making a new bracket next week. Cheers.

CB750 / Fitting Motad exhaust
« on: November 15, 2014, 07:38:51 PM »
Hi all. Getting close to the end of the build now. Decided on a stainless Motad 4 into 1 as the NOS originals are nowhere to be had. Been looking for 9 months and only seen one in the USA at $2000 plus the usual import and postage (too rich for me). Anyway, started fitting the Motad and was surprised that their is no way to fix the header pipes to the collector box. Was expecting clamps or springs etc. Does this just go together dry or am I meant to use exhaust sealing paste? Doesn't make it clear in the instructions, just says as per diagram that isn't there. Its a shame ASh isn't on here anymore, he would know. COME BACK ASH!! Cheers all.

Got me pipes back this afternoon, and am well pleased with them. Just have a look at the photos. Cut off the old hoses on a spare set I had that was in a shocking condition. Polished up the ends by hand and took them in with the set off the bike for them to copy. Had them done at Powerfit on Redmarsh Industrial Estate, Thornton-Cleveleys, Lancashire. And here's the thing, £30 all in. Result I think.

Just having some stainless braided hoses done at the moment at a place near me in Blackpool. Picking them up early this week, will let you know how I got on and post some photos.
